The Virginia Citizens Defense League has started a petition to push congress to act on the National CCW Reciprocity Bill that is sitting in committee. If you wish for this to become law please help by signing the online petition and forwarding it to all of your like minded friends/family and business contacts.

My link would not work but RichardW was kind enough to correct it. See Post #4 for correct link.

My only fear is that things like this tend to devolve to the the lowest common denominator. By that I mean that if it passes those of us who live in the freer states might ALL find ourselves ending up having to jump through the same kind of hoops to get a permit that they do in places like CA, IL, and NY. It would suck for everyone to be forced to satisfy those state's requirements in order for them to honor the permits that are issued by the other states. I sure as heck don't want us ALL to end up like them. It just doesn't seem likely that they would ever honor permits from other states that are easier to get.

I think BC38's concerns are valid.

It's predictable that states with less onerous requirements for gun carry permits will be targeted. The argument will be that untrained bumpkins in Georgia and other states requiring no mandatory training for a carry permit simply cannot be forced upon other states by Federal law endangering the lives of their state's citizenry. Standardized requirements for permitting will be the 'common sense' approach.

I don't care how wonderful national reciprocity sounds. Under no circumstances do I want to risk Chuck Schumer even remotely having anything to say about my gun carry permit.

As Muss Muggins put it... just say no.

No.

I think that the concern that a national reciprocity act could lead to a national standard for concealed carry that is based upon the most anti 2A state's laws is misplaced. The NR bill was written and is being pushed by republicans so there is nothing in that bill that has a hint of gun control. In fact is expands 2A rights. As for the democrats passing a national concealed carry I can't see it happening. They could not even get the bad on assault rifles renewed when they had the seats in congress to do it. Meanwhile if the NR Bill passes when I drive from my SE PA home to New Hampshire I am not going to have to lock my gun in a case in the trunk and my ammo locked separately when I drive through NJ, NY, CT, MA which are re the consequitive states I have to drive through to make the trip. None of those states like guns. I won't even have to leave the hollo points at home when in NJ. How that is bad, I cannot conceive.

If I were from NY, CA or MA I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want those hicks from WA running around my State with their practically "give away" CC permit. They need to suffer just like me, take classes, pay $ and then hope some "Official" will decide I can be blessed with a permit.

I vote NO! on NR.

So you would do it to spite? If I can't no one can type of mentality?

I'm not in favor of it for the reasons stated above but I wouldn't do it just to spite someone

Does anyone on here seriously think that the current sitting "Republicans" wouldn't cave into ANY restrictions that the Dems added to this bill?
Mandatory, arbitrary training, gun registration, liability insurance, random searches just for starters, guaranteed!!

You don't want a reciprocity law, you want a Supreme Court ruling that CCW is protected by the full faith and credit clause of the Constitution.

If you get a reciprocity law, I predict you'll have about 2 hours of 50-state reciprocity. Basically, just long enough for the antigun states to file their lawsuits for injunctions. Maybe 6 hours if the federal judge doesn't have cell service. Then the reciprocity law will be replaced by a nationalization of the whole thing which is going to be a nightmare. Probably not because of requirements, those will likely be similar to Florida or Ohio. How the licensing is managed will probably be like any other federal program: poorly.

One thing's for sure, California's police officers will DEFINITELY enforce the federal CCW permit, even though they won't enforce immigration.

No thanks. I'm in favor of gridlock. The less the Feds stick their noses into ANYTHING, the better I like it.

Whatever form of law is currently being proposed is irrelevant. It's the principle. Once you establish that the feds have jurisdiction over state permits, they can change the law later to include all of those onerous restrictions and requirements.

I wonder how many petitions have been submitted about this?

With only 22,373 signed as of today, and another 77,627 needed by August 18, this petition is pretty much dead in the water. No surprise here.

Besides, these online petitions aren't worth the bandwidth it takes to post them online.

If the required number of signatures is achieved, all that's promised is a "response" from the White House, which could be anything from a "Yes, we got the petition. Thanks for your interest." to a big yawn from some low level office clerk who thinks his/her job actually means something. No promises are given regarding any action that may be taken by Congress.

I'd be willing to bet that no Congressman is even aware of this petition and/or others like it.

You can forget about any movement on this or anything of substance for quite a while , imo.
