HB961 is so horribly written that it can be interpreted in numerous ways, but it appears to be a bill designed to ensnare normally law-abiding citizens. Evidently the class 6 misdemeanor charge for possession of a silencer (I thought they were sound suppressors, but after hearing the author of this bill talk about the difference between a semi-automatic firearm and an assault firearm, I'm surprised he can write at all) or magazine with a capacity of more than 12 rounds is not a blanket penalty for being caught with these things, but will be assessed for each banned item a person possess. So that Glock 19 that came with 3 magazines represents 3 years in a Virginia prison.

It is a horribly written bill, it should have never made it out of committee, but when a certain former mayor of NYC has spent millions of his dollars on your election... money talks, bs walks.

Silencer is the legal term so all legislation and legal paperwork refer to them as silencers. Anyone who owns one knows that they do not silence a shot unless you are shooting a 22 with subsonic ammo. That can be Hollywood quiet or better. I once saw a post on a forum by a guy who submitted a Form 1 to make a silencer. He thought he would correct ATF terminology and marked through silencer and wrote suppressor. After several months in process he got it back with a note to correct his paperwork and resubmit. Lot of time lost to try to make a point.

For any of you who are Virginia residents, here is a list of Senators who appear to be on the fence about passing HB961. Call them now and ask them to oppose the bill in any form even if they are not from your district. This can still be stopped before it is passed.

-Senator Boysko (Jennifer) (D33)- 804-698-7533
-Senator Deeds (D25)- 804-698-7525
-Senator Petersen (D34) -804-698-7534
-Senator Lewis (D6)- 804-698-7506
-Senator Edwards (D21)- 804-698-7521

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you and I cannot thank you enough for posting this list! My senator (Pervy Morrissey) is in the tank with M. Bloomberg and does not even have the common courtesy to send me a canned reply to any of my messages.

Correct me if I’m mistaken but with the Senate split 21-19, all you need is two Dems(of the five listed) with a conscience to vote against the Bill?

If all of the Republicans hold the line, then it would take only two Democrats crossing over to kill this monstrosity. If only one votes "no", then the tie vote will be broken by the lieutenant governor, Justin Fairfax (D), who has stated in the past that he has no problems with confiscation, so we know where he stands.

That is correct. If all of the republicans hold the line two dems will kill it. All I got when I called was voice mail but from what I hear they are getting a ton of them. Hopefully it will make a difference to a couple of them.

I just had to look up Pervy Morrissey, actually thinking Pervy was his real name.
After reading up on him, Pervy is his real name.

Two of these asked for name and number when you leave a message. I left my info. Even if they don't return the call it adds to the count.

You think that is bad, I got a reply from a message i had sent to Wendy Gooditis. An automated reply showed up in my junk mail folder and I thought it was porn.

I talked to someone in Deeds office and asked how I could express my desire for him to vote no on this.
I was told to call back and leave a message!
I said you want me to call you back and leave a message?
She chuckled and said she would go ahead and take care of it....good grief
That’s what we’re dealing with these days.

I’ve been e-mailing/calling reps regularly. Lately the moderate Dem Senators who are most likely to cross party-lines and vote against this. Keep the pressure on.

I did the same but was able to speak with one officer worker who labeled Levine's explanation of the bill as "bizarre". We need to keep up the momentum all the way through the November elections.

Foot on the gas- Dem Senators most likely to break party and oppose 961.

My senator, Joe Morrissey, is on the Committee of the Judiciary. I sent him an email detailing the reasons for which I feel several gun bills should be opposed. So far, I don't think he cares what I think, he does not even have a staffer send a canned "thank you for contacting us" reply.

If they have enough time to answer they are not getting enough calls and letters. Keep going. It gets serious Monday.

"BREAKING: VCDL has heard there will be an attempt to modify HB 961 to help save it from being defeated. HB 961 is a disaster and cannot be fixed. It must be killed in its entirety!"

If this is true they must be feeling the pressure.

Just heard that HB 961, the so-called assault weapons ban, was debated in the Senate Committee on the Judiciary this morning and the committee voted to continue this bill to the 2021 legislative session. They will get more input from the Virginia Crime Commission before deciding the ultimate fate of this monstrosity.

The fight is not over. HB 961 is just one of many. We must keep the calls going and above all, we in Virginia must not be complacent on election day. Part of the fight is via our vote. For those here not in Virginia, it coming to a street near you.

Yes, and we need to let those Dem Senators who broke party know that they did the right thing, as the libs will be dragging them across the coals.

This buys us more time to advocate, fund, etc to prep for the next legislative session. We cannot get complacent.

No, we are not yet done.

HB 421- basically eliminates state preemption regarding the possession, carry, and use of firearms and ammunition.

HB 674 - the red flag bill that allows a judge to issue a warrant for search and seizure of firearms without due process.

These two bills pose a serious infraction of the second and fifth amendments to the constitution. Keep the pressure going and if these bills are continued, pending input from the Virginia Crime Commission, email the Crime Commission with your concerns.

Is the 2021 session before or after the 2021 elections? In other words, is the bill dead for this term (2019-2021) or is it just postponed until next year with the same legislators, during the second year of the same term?

The way I understand it, the very same delegates and senators (barring death or retirement) will convene next January for the 2021 session of the General Assembly. The first chance to regain seats from the current Democrat majorities in each house comes in November 2021.

This means that a new "assault weapons ban bill" and any number of other gun control proposals can and most likely will be introduced in January 2021. As many have noted, the battle is never ending!

Great effort by the pro gun citizens of VA, along with the VCDL, GOA and Philip Van Cleave.

We were out of options. I just wish we could have seen the turnout if blackface had not managed to pull off his scare tactics. I think that pared down the crowd considerably. We won't fall for that again.

As I’ve said before I hope the Republican Party or other conservative group at least gives each district someone to vote for. The antis didn’t turn reliable red districts blue by not running a candidate because they thought them to be unbeatable.

I just sent "Thank You" e-mails to the good Democrat senators that voted to table the "assault rifle" and magazine bill.

The members of this assembly will be the same for the 2021 legislative session. Virginia's election of executive and legislative seats falls on odd-numbered years. Next state office elections will be November 2021. Length of any member's term is somewhat similar to those in national elections.

Executive branch: 4 years, governor cannot serve (at this time, but may change) consecutive terms.

State senators: 4 years

State delegates: 2 years

Default pushback to 'his lowness' ralph

Watched the "Ingraham Angle" last night and the first 5 minutes were devoted to the non-passage of 961. Had interview with Chap Petersen, a Northern Virginia Dem,who along with another NoVa Dem(and two others) voted to carry over the bill. Congrats to them and the fellow from the Jan 20th rally who said "Northam has a better chance of laying in a creek and kissing a Copperhead than taking guns from Virginians" !!! It`s obvious my upbringing pales in comparison to that man . Should I ever run into any of those fellows it would be my honor to buy whatever they`re having.

We Virginians need to remember that Bloomberg put a lot of money into those anti's campaigns. They will be beholding to him for quite some time and will continue to do his bidding and continue to campaign to deny our 2nd amendment rights. Never forget!

I heard a humorous but factual quote the other day..” Virginians are fighting a war of Northam aggression “
