Fight is on in Florida
Florida Senate Committee has passed, with the backing of Republicans on the committee, SB 7028.
This bill would require a three day waiting period for firearms sold *€œon property to which the public has the right of access*€ such as *€œa flea market, a gun show, or a firearm exhibit*€
Among other things, it will require individuals who sell guns to other people (private sales) to fill our a form that would include the name, date of birth and ID information of the purchaser. This form would include background questions aimed at ensuring the purchaser is eligible to buy a gun, and would have to be notarized.
Currently, there is not a companion bill in the House.
Latest information is the Speaker of the House Olivia and Gov. DeSantis are opposing this bill.
Sadly, my Senator, Keith Perry, was one of the supporters of this bill in committee. Regardless, I let him know of my opposition.
NOW is the time to contact your legislators. And contact the Speaker and Governor to encourage their opposition.
Email the Governor
E-Mail Representative Jose R. Oliva
Florida House of Representatives - MyFloridaHouse.gov
Find Your Legislators - The Florida Senate
More info can be found at the NRA-ILA website

Good luck and attack it early and vociferously!
It’s better to be the leaders of the pack as opposed to trying to catch up from behind.

Above is a link to the text of the proposed SB7028. This bill includes a number of non firearm related proposals. It is at best, confusing to read and understand and therefore subjective and open to interpretation. I urge all FL members here to contact their State Reps and express their concerns.

Bump to top. FL gun owners, regardless of how “safe” we might feel, let’s not get complacent. It’s easy to look up your State Senator and send them an email. Took me every bit of 10 minutes, and I type sloooww..........

If it said, “back-alley transfers and thefts” require background checks, I might chuckle and support that. But no, criminals are de facto exempt.

Rep State Senators have endorsed this bill and need to be asked why they did. Write them and ask.

Update: This bill has not yet been presented for a full Senate vote. It was referred to the Judiciary/Appropriations Committee on the 17th. It was reported favorably out of the Infrastructure and Security sub committee with a vote of 7 for and 0 against on the 13th.
I have again contacted my Senator, Rob Bradley, asking him and his colleagues not to support this bill. I’ll be emailing him everyday, if I have to.
The Senate President, Bill Galvano (R), apparently received campaign contributions of $200K and $300K from a Bloomberg organization in Oct of last year. You all are smart enough to figure this out.

I liked your post but didn’t like it. Yes, you’re correct.
I lived in Fl. for 30 yrs. and always appreciated its position on gun rights.
It should not be allowed to change one bit. We’re now fighting this in Va. and it’s an up hill battle because we dropped the ball in the last election.
Stay WOKE!!

Bump to top.
Florida members, this is important. Florida Conservatives won this State by a hair last election cycle. We don’t want Florida to be the next Virginia. Those brave folks there are having a fight on their hands now.
Bill Galvano is a Republican (recently received $500K from Bloomberg) who is sponsoring this bill and he has the support of other Republicans. The bill is nonsensical and unenforceable. Contact your State representatives about these bills. I’ve written my State Senator and Representative every other day - still haven’t heard back and that’s starting to p*ss me off. We got to keep pushing them and HARD! They have to know we do not support these silly bills and their continued support of them will cost them their jobs.

Interesting to note that the NRA ILA often emails out links to write our lawmakers on things like this, which makes it easy. Silence so far.

You hit on an important note. It is not just Democrats seeking to restrict the 2A, but also a fair number of Republicans. Beware and I hope Florida does not become the next Virginia.

They should send some Magpul goodies to all that call since they have plenty of stock left over from Jan 13.

Bump to top.
FL member, this bill has been moved to the Senate as of 1/22/20. No further action, yet. I would urge all FL members here to contact your State Senators and express your concerns over this bill. Remember that Republican Senators are sponsoring this bill, not Democrats. Also, remember that the Senate President, Bill Galvano (a Republican) is pushing this bill after his campaign received a Large $500K contribution from the Mike Bloomberg organization. We need to keep the pressure on these guys.

I informed my RINO state senator I would be following the progress on this bill, and any "FOR" vote by her would result in an "Against" vote by me, even if it requires voting for any and all opponents she will face during re-election, regardless of party affiliation.

SB 7028 has not been heard in another committee. And there is not a companion bill in the House. Governor and Speaker of the House have voiced opposition
So far, so good. Last Day for Committee meetings is March 3. Last day of session is March 13.
Stay vigilant. All kinds of nonsense happens at the end of session. Now would be a good time to remind your Senator and Representative of your opposition. See post #1 to find your members.

Talk up the opposition at the range, gun clubs, anywhere gun users might gather. Hit it hard, and often. Regardless where your representative stands on the issues let them know your opposition.

Victory!
Senate President Galvano has stated in the press that this bill will NOT be coming up for a vote on the Fl Senate Floor. So, it appears Bloombergs $500,000 contribution to the Senate President was not enough.
Seems the outpouring of opposition, along with the House Speaker and Governor announcing their opposition, have killed it.
Take a moment to email the Governor and Speaker and thank them.
I'll smile now. I'll do the happy dance when session is adjourned and this bill is dead AND buried.

I live in Central Florida and two of the last three pistols I have purchased have been at gun shows. Both required a 3-day wait.

Just checked the Florida Senate website. SB 7028 has been:
“Indefinitely postponed and withdrawn from consideration”
I don’t think it will be brought up for consideration this session.

Should be required to be pro 2nd amendment to run for any office, if your not or get caught lying about it a good tar and feather job, before being hung in the public square, while being shot. Then we go get tough.

“No man’s life, liberty, or property are safe while the Legislature is in session” Attributed to Gideon Tucker.
Though Fordson is correct, I will take heed of Mr. Tucker’s advice, and wait.

For hand guns there is a waiting period already. If you get a concealed carry permit then you will not have a waiting period for hand guns.

Waiting period does not apply for hand guns or long gun if you hold a CCP.

No need to ask why. It's politics. If they're endorsing it, that means there's something in it for them. Maybe something along the lines of, "Hey, Jack, endorse this bill I'm in favor of, and I'll help you out in getting that new school you promised the voters in your hometown."
It's the you-scratch-my-back-and-I'll-scratch-yours school of legislating. Nothing new here.

Thanks, but I did know that. I don't currently have a CCP but my wife and I want to take the class when we get some time. I should have made it clearer that I was speaking on behalf of the non-CCP folks.

My hope is that Bloomberg soon realizes that his efforts aren't going to sway as many people as he hopes. Money can't buy everything.

Oh, Im familiar with the process and the politics. I still maintain that they need to be asked Why. Theres an accountability for their actions - and a reckoning come Nov.

Hopefully, that reckoning will be effective and send a clear message to those who introduce, support, and vote for B.S. firearms legislation.

Oh, I have. Eight emails, - no response. Three phone calls before I got thru to talk with a staffer. They just take a message. I am disappointed in them.
The reckoning will come, because they are accountable for their actions and they will know why (here’s that word again) they are voted out of office.

Contact your State representatives about these bills. I’ve written my State Senator and Representative every other day - still haven’t heard back and that’s starting to p*ss me off. We got to keep pushing them and HARD! They have to know we do not support these silly bills and their continued support of them will cost them their jobs.

Florida, like Texas, is destined to become a Blue State soon, probably within 2 election cycles.
But you still need to fight it to the end, because when those states are flipped, the unpleasantness coming down the road will be hot and heavy. ( For all of us ).
