Default Who to vote for in this year's NRA Director election

I'm a Patron Life Member of the NRA, but I'm not sure if the Board of Directors is strong enough. Who can I vote for that is truly strong, willing to work to make the NRA stronger and not as divided as it is? Should I just write in candidates who have expressed an interest in fiscal management?

I've read the Forum's position on the NRA, and I'm not bashing. I am concerned and I want to make the NRA stronger. Ignoring a illness doesn't make it go away. Treatment does.

ASNF.

Unfortunately the ballot gives little info on how the potential Board Member really feels about the 2A.
In my world I try to vote for a candidate that believes in the 2A as written, but that gets harder every year with watered down, wishy washy members who really don’t believe that.
Right now, Mark Robinson out of Greensboro NC, is my only sure pick. I may only vote for him. ymmv

Edit: Col Alan West also, strong 2A supporter.

Hello! I believe that the OP has posted an appropriate question. 6518John has cited my recommendation of Jeff Hague from the Bridgeville Rifle and Pistol Club in Delaware. I was surprised to find that, according to the ballot and bio page in the American Rifleman, that Jeff has withdrawn his name from consideration. Unfortunately, I have not had the opportunity to confirm this.

I have had dealings with both Ted Carter and Anthony Colandro who are both up for re-election. I have been in touch with them both since the Virginia rally, since it was reported that day that the NRA's state director for Virginia stated that the NRA was open to compromise on the pending legislation. Both men were shocked to hear that statement and promised to look into that claim. As a Benefactor Life member, I called for that state director's termination. In my dealings with both Anthony and Ted, I have found them both to be men of their word.

What my club has learned (having had members serve as NRA President and Board members), submitting a full ballot reduces the chances of a preferred candidate winning. Bullet ballots are more effective, even though it seems like you are throwing away votes! Both Anthony and Ted are on Facebook, and can be contacted privately with questions and concerns via that platform.

Ed

There is another thread on this very subject. In addition to the candidates mentioned above, I will join other Massachusetts forum members in strongly recommending Jim Wallace, executive director of our Gun Owners Action League (GOAL{dot/org}). For years he's successfully fought for our rights in Boston, and he'll be just the kind of director we need in these troubled times.

Thanks for the inputs so far. I'll be voting to reflect your wisdom. I'm also going to write in Rob Pincus. He seemed genuinely interested in getting the NRA to a strong financial position. Being a retired federal financial analyst (20 years in the DC area) I think it's imperative we (NRA) members make sure the money is spent wisely.

I received mine earlier this week and have it ready to go now. I read through all the bios and ranked them 1-10, and whether they would be new Board members or were already on the Board. I thought with some new blood, maybe the NRA could get back on track before it is too late. I have seen quite a few folks who are really disillusioned with the NRA and are resigning their membership. Not good. We need to try to fix the problems instead of throwing the baby out with the bath water.

I eliminated everyone nominated by the nominating committee. I think that left two. Too much "old boy club" for me.

No vote for me this year
They don't deliver mail where I live and we pick it up at the PO.
My neighbors got their Rifleman but not me. I'm so sick of them putting my mail in someone else's box that I could scream.

Probably some Granny who tossed it in the trash as evil.

I did a "bullet vote" for Jim Wallace, GOAL Executive Director. Jim is a very passionate 2A supporter and has done a good job with the MA state org in spite of few legislative supporters.

If You have a particular candidate or candidates You want elected, only vote for them. Don't vote the full slate as You reduce Their chances of being elected. Steve Schreiner of CO is an excellent choice as a pro 2A as written candidate.

See Reason for editing - guess the post I am mentioning above this one has been deleted. Not sure what this post has to do with the subject of the thread, but you and too many others may be the very reason why the Second Amendment is in so much peril. There are many things that I see happen with organizations and governments that I don't like, but it would be terribly wrong for me to just quit. I am finding way too many people on this Forum who love guns, but hate the NRA and will never understand how the most vocal, visible, and best known supporter of the 2nd Amendment can survive without the support of all of us.

As for the question at hand, I cannot put together a list of who to vote for, but wish someone would post their list in this thread for review.

For an overview of all the candidates, click here.

An interesting statistic: In 2019, the Committee mailed 2,452,813 ballots to eligible members.

Only 145,920 ballots were returned. And 4,819 of those were ruled invalid for various reasons. That's something like a 6% or 7% turnout.

That's one sorry return rate for an election that could shape the NRA for the next few years and could dictate how the NRA fights for our Second Amendment rights.

I see lots of big talk on gun forums. See lots of whining about how the NRA is being run and about how money's being spent on the wrong things, too. Well, pounding on your keyboard isn't accomplishing anything.

Fill out your ballot correctly, and above all...send it in.

Received the ballot in the mail yesterday. Had a few minutes to review, got the impression that 32 of the 38 will serve on the board no matter the ballot results. A quick overview a few minutes ago of the link Watchdog provided indicates quite a bit of reading between the lines and research needed to determine those few who are nominated that would prove a detriment to an organization devoted to the preservation of our 2nd Amendment.

I'll speak to one candidate, James "Jim" Wallace of MA.

I've known Jim since he was hired by GOAL, as I was legislative chairman for 3 different gun clubs in MA for a total of ~18 yrs, I was in close contact with them every month in order to report what they were doing and what the Mass legistraitors were trying to do to us!

Jim is well-spoken and does a very good job of representing all gun owners in Mass. We don't have the clout to really change gun laws, but Jim effectively works the "back room" to kill off some of the worst bills that would hurt us.

He does deserve our support.

Resurrecting this old thread because ballots are out again for Board election. My wife and I received our magazines with ballots late last week.

If any of you have been following blogs and articles from places like FPC, AmmoLand, etc., you are probably aware of all the legal problems the NRA has been having over the past few years. A lot of folks have dropped out or not joined in the first place, and as a result, NRA revenues are down quite a bit while legal costs are up.

I thought it would be good to bring this thread back to life to remind everybody how important it is to vote in the NRA Board election. My thinking is to only vote for those candidates you think can help. Keeping your vote limited to just your choices rather than voting for several candidates you my feel "blah" about will give your vote more power.

I hope I haven't said anything in this post that would not be in accordance with our Forum rules (I don't think I have). The NRA is important for all of us.

I also voted for Mark and will do so again. Is Alan West also on the ballot? He will also get my vote.

This is in no way meant to be political, but I certainly see the value in hearing from people who have actually met/interacted with the candidates. I admit to being one who has decided to sit out the past few rounds since the choices were limited to those chosen by the nominating committee. I have belonged to other organizations whose boards became self-perpetuating and I tired of the frustration. If I have the opportunity to vote for less than a full slate of candidates who have individually favorably impressed fellow forum members I'd give it another go.

I have not personally met any of the candidates, unfortunately. I am relying on what some folks who do know some of the candidates are saying. Jeff Knox had an article in Ammo Land magazine which was informative. I went by what he recommended. I wound up voting for six people.
