I'm sure that the NY AG doesn't care an iota about the NRA's business practices. Just an excuse to defang a powerful pro-gun organization. Typical lib.

From what the NY AG said, the portion
of the NRA that is involved is the membership/
non-profit status part of the organization.
The Political Action section is not included in
the lawsuit nor does the suit seek to
dissolve it.

As far as guns or gun issues this female AG is as off the wall and as dangerous as Cuomo is.
Could say a lot more but I will leave it at that.

I'm not a lawyer but suspect that
under new leadership the NRA could
again seek a non-profit charter for
the membership division of the
association.
Or it could just continue as a Political
Action Committee as it has been doing
for decades.

If the NRA is so ineffective, why are they trying to kill it?

I don't think it's coincidence that "At the same time, the attorney general for Washington, D.C., filed suit against the NRA and its foundation, alleging the misuse of charitable funds and wasteful spending."
The same story in Reuters: New York seeks to break up National Rifle Association, ...

Self dealing? I am shocked! The Catholic Church, the Boy Scouts of America, child trafficking islands in the Carribean, where will it all end? Nowhere. Even a little bit of power corrupts most men. The more power, the more corruption. "I will be the one who gets away with it, after all, everyone does it..." The weakness of all organizations is that they are populated by humans, I remain a member.

The NRA remains the most effective Pro-Gun organization in the US. But, it needs a leadership change. Even if nothing wrong happened, the current leaders are tainted and the organization will need to rebuild it's reputation.
I still support them, but I hope they react quickly, change appointed leadership, and recharter somewhere else.

Many of you have forgotten or are choosing to ignore the fact that this forum supports the NRA and will not tolerate people speaking against it. Multiple "infractions" have been issued without points to remind some of this but going forward, vacations will be given.

I am a Benefactor Life member, and have been a member of some manner for over 50 years. What I am about to post is not to be construed as NRA bashing.
When the NRA was formed circa 1873, it was formed for the explicit purposes of marksmanship training and firearms safety. The ILA and PVF which are not currently targeted, may not be amended to the original charter.
Because of the historical mission stated by the NRA for ages, this legal action could weaken sanctioned competitive marksmanship activities. What many current members may not be aware of, is that the International Shooting Union (ISU) recognizes the NRA as the sole sanctioning body for competitive marksmanship in the United States.
My concern is, will the NRA's lawyers in this action be fighting to save the four or five cited individuals/contractors, or to represent the interests of the FIVE MILLION plus members!

I’ve been an NRA member for 20 years...but can’t express a personal opinion about its leadership here on a gun forum.

Point well taken, so we'll end it now. There is sister thread going on in the Lounge, and it too will end if people can't color within the lines.
