That’s right. I forgot that. But all the permit holders that I know, while they weren’t happy about the Safe Act, would gladly go back to the way it was under the Safe Act.

I still have my old paper permit, and my newer 5 card one.

Don’t think it will be valid much longer if the process to renew, as described, is fact.

Safe Act mandated permit renewal every 5 years. Some county sheriffs said they were not going to enforce it so your county might not have bothered to send out renewal notices.

Your permit is 30 years old so you’ve had it for a long time. As of September, nearly all of the places you’ve been carrying in are now illegal to carry.

Even though I’ve had my permit since I moved I would not take any gun to NY for any visits. MD and NJ are no man’s land, don’t know which is worse.

Side story; After the SA was enacted the rod & gun I had a membership with started receiving regular visits from the BCI irregularly when center fire rapid rifle fire could be heard, it was advised from the leadership of the club to close the entrance gate behind us when entering the range. Although many of the Sheriffs opted for discretion that was not the case with the state police. When the SA was announced Albany held a few community type meetings to sell this Draconian law to the citizens. I attended one of the reeducation meetings in a community building the main speaker was a retired Detective Glasscott with some Albany SP brass. This townhall meeting was met with strong local opposition, they never expected the masses to turn out in the numbers that we did.The SP brass got so nervous at this meeting they called for back up from as far away as Rochester. With the exception of verbally expressing our displeasure this was a very civilized gathering!

I’d be willing to bet there’s still many Repeal the Safe Act signs and some not so nice referrals concerning the Gov who signed it, in the upstate area.

I remember driving thru Putnam, Dutchess and Orange and seeing them all over the place. That’s not even “upstate”.

I still see them in Orange County. Growing up in Brooklyn and Long Island, I considered anything north of The Bronx “upstate”. But you’re right, Orange County isn’t really considered upstate. 45 minutes and you’re in The Bronx.

My MIL used to call Mahopac, where we lived, “up the line”.

I chuckle when I see NY newscasters when reporting an incident, call Tarrytown, Ossining, etc “upstate”.

They need to get out and see the US of A..

Orange County still has plenty of farms and rural areas, or at least did when I moved from NY in 2016, but the influx of city folk is changing that.

You know lots of NYC civil servants live in Orange.

They surely do. Use to be a slightly cheaper alternative to Long Island and Rockland, but that is changing. I know plenty of cops from Orange County. They all work in the Bronx or upper Manhattan. The job does that little service for them, at least. Every now and then I’ll meet a city cop from Orange County who works in Brooklyn. First question I ask is “what did you do that they’re punishing you for?” There’s a term for it: Highway Therapy. Same for Long Island residents working in The Bronx. It just never happened unless it was punitive. My Brooklyn precinct was 18 miles from my Nassau County home. On a day tour, that 18 mile drive would take me 90 minutes.

The rules are stupid. You can only live in a county that continually touches an adjoining county to the city, so you can’t live in Dutchess or Sullivan County and commute to work in NYC, but you can live in Putnam.

After 9/11 when I was in NYC, I met a couple of NYPD officers who told me that they lived in PA. I never asked how they accomplished that because I didn't know them that well.

Yup. Plenty of them (if you get out of the Big Five cities). Most of them brittle and bleached from nine and a half years of UV damage from the sun, but a few in the shade or behind glass are still legible.

Most of the Cuomo stuff has been replaced by words I can't put here about Gov. Hochul, including some targeting her gender (yeah, because THAT'S her problem ... ).

They accomplished that by using a family member as their registered address and to register their cars, so they keep their NY license. The PA house is registered in their wife's name or something. I know a few who did that. Quite a few more FD guys since they make the commute fewer times a month. Never saw a problem with it. They came to work when they were supposed to be there.
