Sen Wyden, (OR) strange new bill
Unfortunately I admit to living back in Oregon again. (Caliregon.)
This proposed bill will “ tackle the proliferation of automatic gun conversions and seizing profits of traffickers.” “It must STOP.”
I have no idea what this means. I’m in touch with current things but wasn’t aware of the “proliferation”. Of course by memory I knew that since 1934 there was only 4 cases of homicides with fully auto weapons. One of them was from a LE person. Are they not reporting encounters with FA perps now?
I am concerned since I have a NFA Stamped weapon and that legally owned ones will be next in OR.
Thoughts ???
Jim

Wyden has introduced or supported a number of gun control bills over the years. This one is being labeled as the “Preventing Illegal Weapons Trafficking Act of 2022”.
This is just a dog and pony show. Auto sears and full-auto conversions are already highly regulated. I don’t see any ramifications for lawfully owned class III firearms.
I suspect he knows this bill is going nowhere, but we can’t let our guard down. He’s up for re-election this year and wants to show his supporters that he’s doing something.

Not sure how I feel about Glock switches, but apparently some are made in China and ending up with gang members. Sounds like that's what he's after.

Forced Reset Trigger or "FRT" might be one motive.
basically, it works with the standard AR FCG where the trigger is forced by the bolt to sweep past a reset point. as the bolt goes back into battery, the hammer is released to engage the sear as would be normal.
The cute part is that this happens so quickly, your finger ends up acting as a spring. the trigger vibrates under your finger, the gun has a giggle fit till you release the trigger or it runs out of tasty treats.
You are pulling the trigger for each shot, albeit not deliberately.
For now, that deliberate qualifier is not a part of law defining FA.
A number of things like this are emerging to give the slugs of congress conniption fits

A few years back my wife and I made the 4 hour drive south to our son's college graduation from SOSC. As if the drive wasn't bad enough, we find out before heading home we have to sit for an hour in the sweltering heat and listen to the graduation speaker...
You guessed it, Ron Wyden.

Oregon often gets knocked for being such a liberal "progressive" state. The truth is that most of the state is wide open and remote with a very conservative population. Unfortunately, the Portland metro area contains over 60% of the population so the rest of us pretty much are stuck living with their rules.

Same thing with Washington state. East of the Cascades is a whole different world than than anything near Seattle Tacoma. Even up above Seattle the smaller towns are mostly full of hard working conservatives who hate what the masses in the cities vote for.

I understand. I used to live in Eastern Washington before moving to Oregon. Before moving to Spokane we lived for 4 years off the grid in a cabin I built in the woods in the mountains north of Spokane. Back then we were able to buy 10 acres with a spring for (if I remember correctly) about $14,000. I doubt that's still possible but maybe I'm wrong.

I live north of Spokane. I don't think you can buy any real estate for $14,000. Rural WA has become very popular with empty nesters, retirees, and of course the recent boom of remote workers (no state income tax). I'm sure OR is no different and my most recent trip to Bend seems to line up with that.
But, like most firearms collectors/enthusiasts, I'm looking for a way to move to a similar area but in a freer state. N ID is 7 miles away as the crow flies. With my luck, I'll make a huge sacrifice, move, and a federal permanent AWB with 100% registration will pass soon after...
