Federal judge temporarily blocks part of NY's new gun law
Federal judge temporarily blocks part of NY's new gun law
The state of New York has 3 days to respond. This might have to go all the way up to the Supreme Court, but they already said the sensitive areas must be designated sparingly.

This is ridiculous and just should not be allowed to happen.
I might not always like a Supreme Court decision, like one I can think of that they made in 1973, but I live with it. They are the final say. ( Well, they USED to be)
We are circling the drain REALLY fast.

It doesn't matter what recent gun law has been passed, OR what Supreme Court decision we agree or disagree with. The bottom line is whether is meets lour beloved Constitution or not.
Things that are as important as recent discussions should be put to a referendum. Put it on the ballot in November and let the people decide.
If your opinion is not endorsed because not enough people voted on your side, then just live with it.

Agree 100%. This is a win/win for the anti-gun people. They win by passing it. They win by us fighting it. The average person only reads the headlines. Most people think this new law is great and anybody who fights it has the blood of children on their hands. The media narrative has been relentless against us.
But ignoring a Supreme Court decision is the lowest if the low and should not be permitted. Flip the script. If the court ruled that guns are to be completely outlawed and the state disregarded the ruling, there would be Hell to pay.

All of this energy in trying to circumnavigate the SC ruling…… just think what might have been achieved had this amount of effort been directed toward the actual issues……….

Yes I agree too. This banning syndrome has happened to a number of countries, in particular the UK. I have friends there who were keen pistol shooters and now that has all gone. We have political parties here in Oz who are trying to do the same.
Myself and others here watch, with interest, as to what goes on in the US about such matters. Even though our political systems are different, what happens to you can also adversely affect us over time.

If the whole thing isn't struck down and repercussions for those who wrote it, and the governor who passed it, nothing will change.
Temporary win for an eventual loss, either in the court of law or the court of public opinion.

unfortunately the judge reversed course on two sections of the law and while the first time striking them down, he now refused an injunction against them. one was having to meet with an officer who handles the permit process in person and the other the right to carry in the subway.
previously this judge allowed the requirements to submit four reference letters and to more than double the training time required to get a permit and now for the first time, to also renew a permit, which was never required before. So he allowed all but one of the onerous provisions of the permit and renewal process to remain and only struck down having to list your internet accounts and sites you visit.
The training requirement to renew a permit only applies to NYC and a few other downstate counties. The counties north of westchester do not have to do the training to get a permit. I can't understand how this could pass constitutional muster.
