You can change out the safety to an ambi type by using the safety out of any 400/4000 series. Never have seen any other type grips or slide release..Having said that. I have carried a stock 411 since 92, as my primary carry gun (switch off to a wheel gun on occassion and sometimes carry a Sig 220) with no problems..I have never used the safety for anything but a hammer drop. While I usually carry an extra mag, I alway figured that if a reload was necessary, it was time to fall back and call for an air strike , so the slide release wasn't a concern. I did take some 400 grit paper and take the top off the diamonds on the grips to cut down the wear on my shirts and coats. I aquired my 411 a couple of years after I left law-enforcement and figured the 411 was the Model 10 M&P of the Smith auto line. A plane Jane unit that was built for use, with no frills. The newer 410 has better sights and several of the 4000 series of guns come with more bells and whistles..

Sorry for bringing such an old post back to the top but answered without thinking when I was searching on the 411 topic.
