If it was gray, it would fit right in.

Bullseye, is the pin a result of some issue with the little fork-shaped part not holding the plug in place, or just an option for those who want to remove all of the lock parts? Thanks. TB

Post Plug & clip?

I purchased a plug for my Model 22 a few months back, and am just now getting around to having the time to install it. I now see that there is also some type of "clip" in the photos that I didn't notice the first time looking at the thread. None came with the plug. Is that needed? FWIW - my plans are to gut all parts including the flag. Not being at all familiar with the innards of a SW revolver - this is all new turf to me, so any & all input would be greatly appreciated

Thanks.

John, is the video applicable to an L frame revolver? I assume it is. I have just purchased a nib 686 and my only apprehension was this lock thing.....anyway, the plug just pops in and is held in place by a pin?

I assume the J-size will fit a 638? It's kind of gray in color. +1 tenntucker. Feel free to PM

If you look at the third pic in posting #1 of this thread, you will see a small wire clip - which is what I was referring to in my original question. Again - I haven't looked into the details of stripping down a SW revolver - don't know if that clip is part of what is already in the gun, or if it needs to be obtained prior to installation.

Others????

TIA

The plug is held in place with the original yoke that held the lock in. It is simple to do. He also has the clip shown for $1 extra if you want to use it instead but you really don't need it.

Default "The Plug" clip

John sent me one "The Plugs" for my 22 before he devised the clip. I attempted to install it once, but had some trouble with the stock spring fork. As a result, I'm goint to order one of the clips, along with a couple of other "Plugs" and clips for them.

One question though, John. Have you devised a flag replacement yet? I'd sure like to see that to round out the installation and allow me to completely get rid of the locking system. I realize that the removal of the flag would only leave a small gap between the frame and hammer, but I'd still like to see some to fill it.

Some just wanted to remove all of the lock parts, some like having one less piece to worry about. To me one is as good as the other.

I have made a few and I didn't like the out come of them. Still working on it and the small hole on the "J" frame.

John,

I ordered a J-frame black plug the other day. Looks like a great product, can't wait to get it.

RE: the little hole on the J-frames, that looks like it'd be a tougher problem to fix. Fortunately it's small enough that I'm not going to worry about it. Maybe I'll put a square of electrical tape over it....

Happy New Year!

Default Model 22 lock replacement

OK - first off, I've never been inside a Smith revolver before (40 years of 1911s, but that's another story

I watched the YouTube movie thingie - but that is for a coiled main - and mine has a leaf spring. My logic says I need to take out the tension screw at the bottom of the grip to remove the main - correct? If so - that sombitch is in there TIGHT. Before I go postal on it - I want to make sure that that is, in fact, the best way to get the mainspring out.

TIA revolver pistoleros

john

PS - any YouTube videos of N frame/leaf spring take down????

Post plug installed:) - follow up question on finishing

Skip the previous request - it's installed. Needless to say - as a revolver virgin in terms of getting into the guts of a SW, I'm tickled pink that everything went back together with no missing or extra parts - and that it works!

I would like to have the revolver parkerized now, and am looking for a sourch of a place that is familiar with doing so with SW revolvers, i.e., who can get it apart and back together again with no problems

TIA

Is there a plug that fills the flag pivot hole on the Bodyguard, the much smaller hole aft the IL lock hole.

I was mistaken in thinking that smaller hole was on other guns besides the Bodyguard.

Bullseye,
PayPal sent for a stainless K-frame "Plug."
Thanks in advance, and congratulations on creating a solution to a problem, as opposed to the mindset that created a problem for a solution. . . .

I got and installed the plug into my 642...I'm really happy with the result. I can't seem to find the posts that tell how to get the glossy finish on the stainless plug to match the finish of my 642. (don't know what the gun's finish is called...frosted, what?). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Use the green pad from the wifes kitchen sink and go over the plug and it will give it a brush look.
