Default My "In desperate need of more space" sale!!!

My bookshelves runeth over and I need more space for reference texts so these books must find new homes. Regarding the book, all are intact with no torn or dog-eared pages. All have original dustjackets if they came with them. And, none has any writing, highlighting, water damage, etc. All individual prices will have $2.95 for media mail added to them. I would prefer selling more than one book per person and will adjust cost and combine shipping for those buying multiple books.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I have read every one of these books and they are excellent reads! I promise, these are the kind of reads that you cannot put down once you start them. Also, many of the books have excellent photographs to complement the text.

Here is what I have for sale -

"Shooting Under Fire is the candid testimony and stunning photographs of the men and women who go into battle armed only with a camera to show warfare as it is and where it is. In this volume, ten leading combat photographers relate incidents of horror, humor, bravery, and daring in locations from Vietnam to Haiti, Ramallah to Chechnya, El Salvador to Sarajevo, the World Trade Center to Afghanistan." - SPF

"In WWII the U.S., Great Britain and Germany each produced a ground commander who stood out from the rest and who has come to define their countries' respective ways of war. Brighton combines archival and published sources with his experience as curator of the Queen's Royal Lancers Museum to compare these three men of war: George Patton, Bernard Law Montgomery and Erwin Rommel." - SPF

"Shocking as it is, this book--a crucial source of original research used for the bestseller Hitler's Willing Executioners--gives evidence to suggest the opposite conclusion: that the sad-sack German draftees who perpetrated much of the Holocaust were not expressing some uniquely Germanic evil, but that they were average men comparable to the run of humanity, twisted by historical forces into inhuman shapes." - SPF

"Matterhorn is a marvel--a living, breathing book with Lieutenant Waino Mellas and the men of Bravo Company at its raw and battered heart. Karl Marlantes doesn't introduce you to Vietnam in his brilliant war epic--he unceremoniously drops you into the jungle, disoriented and dripping with leeches, with only the newbie lieutenant as your guide." - Asking price is $12

"Compilations of war letters written by soldiers in combat zones have become an increasingly familiar genre in recent years. But this collection is unique, both in scope and content. Carroll traveled to more than 30 countries on five continents to search for these letters, and his encounters on his travels are just as interesting as the letters. Historically, the letters range from the Revolutionary War to the current conflict in Iraq. They include letters from American and Allied soldiers, but they also include correspondence from enemy soldiers and their wives and loved ones." - SPF

"Irwin, a 76-year-old retired philosophy professor at Pennsylvania's Lock Haven University, offers a brief account in 10 chapters of his WWII service. Born in Norristown, Pa., Irwin enlisted in the army in August 1944 at age 18 and was honorably discharged in July 1946. An eventful march through Germany, including a surprise capture of enemy soldiers that turned out to be more of a nuisance than a triumph for the American side, accentuates the battle-weary and ultra-realistic tone of the memoir, puncturing illusions about the so-called grandeur and glory of war." - SPF

"In An Army at Dawn,, a comprehensive look at the 1942-1943 Allied invasion of North Africa, author Rick Atkinson posits that the campaign was, along with the battles of Stalingrad and Midway, where the "Axis ... forever lost the initiative" and the "fable of 3rd Reich invincibility was dissolved." Additionally, it forestalled a premature and potentially disastrous cross-channel invasion of France and served as a grueling "testing ground" for an as-yet inexperienced American army." - SPF

"When the United States entered the war in Vietnam in the 1960s, it had the world’s most powerful air force. But unlike past wars when the enemy was clearly defined, the nature of this war was much murkier and there was hesitation to use airpower to "bomb them back into the Stone Age" as one general irresponsibly recommended. Throughout the years of the conflict, generals and government officials often misconstrued the situation or solution, leading to a confusing policy and eventual defeat." - SPF

"Vivid account of the Wehrmacht's final offensive, by Astor (The Last Nazi, 1985, etc.). Exhaustively researched, much of it narrated by participants, this is a chronicle in the style of the new military history, conveying an experience as well as a report on a military action. The immediacy and clarity of enlisted men's accounts form the core reality here, giving a palpable sense of infantry and tank warfare." - SPF

"THE VIETNAM WAR ALMANAC is fairly-well put together, with a chronological aspect, kicking off with a bit of general Vietnamese history, right through French colonialism, Japanese World War II occupation, rekindling of French control, the defeat at Dem Bien Phu, the ensuing politics and division between North and South Vietnams and finally direct U.S. involvement beginning with the landing of the U.S. 9TH Marines at Da Nang on March 8, 1965 and on to the evacuation of Saigon in 1975 and beyond." - Asking price is $4

First "I'll take it gets the book(s)". Leave a message here, send me a PM, or email me directly at [email protected]
