The 37 mm flare caliber is the specification for a civilian legal variant of the US military's 40 mm grenade system.

To avoid classification as "destructive devices" under the National Firearms Act, ordnance fired from 37 mm flare launchers are typically non-weapon rounds. Such rounds include:

flares
smoke rounds
noise effect rounds

Where weapon rounds (i.e "destructive devices") are to be fired from a 37 mm launcher, it must have a destructive device tax stamp, as must the individual weapon rounds.

37 mm flares can be fired from a variety of devices, including standalone launchers, and M203 style launchers mounted on rifles with rail mounting systems.

I like this thing...I am interested. Where do you get the 37mm casings? I know you can get adpters for flares, smoke, and 12 guage shotgun shells, but, where did you get what you have shot in it????
