I have a couple of sets of the Shield pins available and should have more next week. They are priced at $15 per set of two, plus $2.50 shipping if not purchased along with a pusher. Why so expensive? The ejector pins I make them from cost me close to $5 each by the time I get them shipped. I'm looking for a cheaper source, but even if I can find them .50 cheaper they still have to be ground to shape which is time consuming and not every example turns out like I want it to. Eventually I'll come up with some sort of jig or guide to get them all the same. Right now, they are hand ground.

What is the consensus on which to buy for use on shield but also other handbuns, glock, bersa, springfield, etc..?

Unless you're dealing with slide mounted safety levers, the Mk lll is the weapon of choice.

I'll send you a pm with ordering instructions, but for others that may be interested the answer is either. The Mk lV is designed for this type gun, but the Mk lll will work if you're willing to remove the safety levers. If it's not a decocker only, it's not difficult to remove the safety levers. If it's a decocker, it's a little more tedious.

Here's a pic of the left side of my Shield rear sight. I tried a variety of pushing pin shapes before finding the right combination. Most didn't work well. The right side shows the sight after pushing it back in with one of the new pins. These pins will also work on the M&P FS, C, and the S&W 1911 sights with the "steps". Should work well on Novak type sights also. BTW,
I made no effort to protect the sight. I planned on changing it out anyway, and wasn't concerned about the cosmetics. The regular pin will remove the sight by pressing in the upper right corner where the greatest flat area is located. The new pin just works a whole lot better.





I called S&W CS to order a new sight. I knew I'd screw this one up playing with it. Anyway, after hearing how I messed up the sight, they sent me a new one on the house. One day, I'll get around to installing it.

I have finally located a cheaper source for the Shield/M&P/whatever push pin material. These are a couple of bucks apiece cheaper than the originals and seem to be of full equal quality. Anyway, I'm now offering these at a cost of $10/set when shipped with a pusher, or $12.50 shipped separately. These are a real help with the stepped sided sights and should work real well with any sight with a dovetail larger than 3/8".

I recently purchased a 5906 and 4566. I want to change out the tired/worn sights on both and also plan on adding an M&P to the fold sometime in the not so near future. Is there a model you would recommend that would allow me to change sights on all three firearms?

Welcome to the forum! Yes, I'd recommend the Mk lV based on the 5906 and 4566. You can certainly use a Mk lll just as well on either of these, but you would need to remove the safety levers from the slide. This isn't a big deal to do, BTW. Takes me about a minute to remove or replace the levers. Either one will work on the M&P, but I would recommend a set of the M&P push pins to make the job go easier.

I have a bunch of semi-auto pistols: 1911s with frame mounted safety levers, (Kimber & Taurus brands now) a Beretta M9 with a slide mounted safety lever, an M&P9 with a safety & a new 9mm Shield. What model would I want to buy, with what accessories, to be best able to accommodate all of these? Thanks!

The ideal thing would be a Mk lV with the M&P pin option. If you are willing to take the safety levers off the M9, then you could get by with a Mk lll. I know the levers on a gen 3 Smith are pretty easy to r&r, but I haven't tried it on the Beretta. Also, with the Mk lV I provide a spacer to go inside the Beretta frame rails. They are pretty flimsy and could be bent without the spacer block. If you should decide to go the Mk lll route, remind me that you need the spacer.

I've had a couple of customers who have attempted to work on Shields without using the M&P pin set. The results were less than satisfactory. I didn't develop these pins just to have something to do. If you plan to work on any of the modern Smith rear sights with the stepped sides, these pins are almost mandatory if you don't want to chew up the sight.

Well, another schedule change at work. Looks like Mon-Wed will now be shop days.
