Sellier and Bellot makes 148 grain wadcutter ammo for the .38 special. Its also made by Fiocchi. I'm pretty sure Remington, Winchester and Federal all make 148 grain target wadcutters also. Used to be when police carried .357 revolvers there was always a huge supply of target wadcutters at every gunshop. Now you have to look for it.

AmmunitionToGo appears to have both the S&B and Fiocchi 148gr wadcutters in stock for the same price. They only show the S&B in a 50 rd box, but the Fiocchi is available in 50 rds, 500 rds and 1000 rds.

Default Precision

You might try Precision Delta down in MS. They're known for match grade wadcutters.

Like sooooooooo many calibers this can be hard to find right now,
You could check Champions Choice for Federal's but they won't be cheap!!
Champion's Choice - Home Page

I went and checked - even they are out right now!!

One of the best is Penn Bullets.

.38 Caliber Bullets Available From Penn Bullets

I use his .38 Caliber 148 Grain Double Bevel Base Wadcutter (Match Grade) at $72 per 1000.

The question is not the bullet but rather the loaded ammo!

You are right. I misread the question.

I have never seen a box of loaded .38 wadcutters. I just assumed everyone that target practiced with a wadcutter reloaded.

Hornady and Speer both make a LWC bullet... Should be able to get them from Midway, Graf's etc.

FWIW

I bought my wife one of the little scandium J-frame .38's with target rear and hi-viz front sight back in 2000. I tried to warn her it would recoil too much for her, but that just made her want it more. Five rounds through the gun and she decided she didn't want it anymore. Recoil was ugly to say the least. I was in Cheaper than Dirt in Fort Worth one day and they had .38 special wadcutters for $5.99/50 rds. The manager made me a deal $400.00 for 2K rounds of Sellier and Bellot 148 grain target wadcutters. The wife immediately reclaimed her revolver. The gun still has a bit of recoil even with the wadcutters, but she has no problem handling it and loves to carry it when we're out hiking. She also keeps it on her nightstand at night. Not the best self defense round on the market, but I know it will get the job done.

I have fired many thousand of Mastercast's .38 sp. 148gr WC reloads. Fired fifty today. Highly recommended. Prompt, reliable and inexpensive. Only one problem: right now, due to the current insanity, unless you send them your spent brass (same caliber and number) in exchange, they cannot help you. I noted last week that Mastercast is once again providing 9x19 reloads without requiring brass in exchange, so maybe things are loosening up. If you are shooting .38 special, don't you save your brass? You can send it to Mastercast via USPS Priority Mail. 1,000 .38 sp cases will fit easily in a nine buck Priority Mail box. I recently discovered that 500 9x19 cases will fit in a four buck envelope -- and get there in good shape.

Cordially, Jack
