Reloading is the only answer W?
But the second gig to afford ammo is about the size of it!
Wait until the inflation kicks in from running the presses 24/7.
We'll all be looking back at these prices as "the good old days"!

It is showing up more and more here in Idaho. I think it may have something to do with hunting season around the corner. The prices are still way high IMO.
I started to reload last year at the beginning of the hoarding and now am starting to cast my own bullets. Great hobby..half the fun is finding the components, which are finally starting to show up.

I was at my lgs yesterday, and was surprised to see the shelves full of ammo. I was also a bit surprised when I saw the prices though. Quite a jump from what they were back before the shortage. Not sure if they are passing on a hike in the prices they pay, or just gouging. But seeing all that ammo was a good sign.

Ammo? Anyone say ammo? The straps on my plastic bag were so heavy yesterday they were cutting into my fingers as I carried them inside. I only bought one lot of loaded ammo, but it also came with empties and some bullets.
Then, just because I felt wealthy, I picked up 100 .222 Jet bullets, 100 175gr 7mms, and 100 180gr .308s. Those cost me $20 a box. I wasn't complaining too much, since other tables had the same things for $35 a box of 100! Ammo is where you find it. Look harder!

Me neither, but I found .38 spl at wal-mart last week for 13.99. There were 5 boxes and I snatched 'em. Week before last I scored 10 boxes of 40 s+w at meijer's for 19.59 a box. Not exactly cheap but they were there and I had mad money.

The ammo manufacturers just finally figured out what the gasoline manufacturers learned a few years ago....create a shortage...jack up the prices and people will flock to buy it....even if they don't need it (or want it).
I know a guy who has never wanted a gun, but spent big dollars to get one in all this frenzy...now doesn't know why he bought it!
Something about not being able to have something that drives people crazy and fuels the insane purchasing frenzy!

Natchez has some of both, not the cheapest but they do have it:
Natchez Shooters Supplies
They seem to be able to keep it in stock, and the prices are about the same as "retail" in the stores near me.
I'm still hoping that I don't run out of primers before the ammo prices drop down again or I'll have to buy some of this "premium priced" ammo!

It's catch as catch can here in the Sac valley. When I find what I'm looking for I just go ahead and (I'm really sorry for this one) bite the bullet and stock up. It probably won't get better for a long while.

I checked my local WalMart and there was absolutely zero ammo in .25Auto, .380Auto, 9mm Auto, .38-Special, .357 Magnum, .44 anything, and there were just two boxes of .40S&W FMJ and one box of WWB .45Auto Personal Protection 230-gr JHP (which BTW is very good SD ammo).
In other words, if it wasn't hunting rifle ammo or shotgun shells, the shelves were absolutely bare.

Handloading is the answer.
I've been handloading for 32 years. I collect brass everywhere I go. Bought a Dillon 1050 a few years ago and never looked back. It's an avocation. I love to shoot. I have to handload.
It costs me $10. per 100 to load 38 special.
Buying ammunition retail is downright painful I can't imagine spending .25 cents every time I pull the trigger.
A little brass .
A little ammo stash.
It helps when you have a friend who loads all pistol calibers. Those are all Dillon 1050s....
Regards ,,Allen F.

It does get to the point where it's nearly as much fun as shooting it, doesn't it?
