New Fusion Ammunition
A friend of mine went to get some .357 ammo the other day and was sold this new Fusion ammo, he says the salesman claimed it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Has anyone ever heard of this stuff before? It's made by Federal and has a lot of French writing on the box. one thing that stood out was the paragraph of marketing bologna on one side of the box. I went to the website and its very vague on facts and real internal ballistic data.

It radiates energy, empowers the predator and unleashes unthinkable performance-what more information do you need???

The basic technology is that the jacket is "fused" to the core to keep the bullet from spitting the core out of the jacket at close range hits, while still expanding at longer range. Hornady makes hunting rifle bullets with this technology (Interbond), and I like them for deer hunting.
I've never noticed that my pistol loads have any particular problem with spitting the cores out of the jacketed bullets, so I'm not quite sure why I would need that technology in a pistol bullet.
You pays your money and makes your choices.........

Since this was sold as defensive ammo by the salesman I'm not so sure "empowering the predator" is something you want defensive ammo to do for you. It's always my understanding you want to disable the predator quickly.

After reading that package I'd say someone needs to get the marketing dept back in it's cage.

The website for Fusion indicates this is hunting ammunition, not self-defense.
"...he says the salesman claimed it was the greatest thing since sliced bread."
Salesmen always claim that.

the greatest thing since sliced bread?
sliced bread is pretty fricken awesome. I've used Fusion in .270 140gr on paper and whitetails with good results.

I sure wish I could recall Erichs brilliantly constructed litany of magic bullet descriptions!

I believe Speer Gold Dot is also a bonded design used for SD and has been on the market for years now. This looks like nothing new, unless they are priced less than the competition.

I shot a whitetail with one in .30-06
150 grain. The jacket separated from the lead and neither part exited. It did kill the deer but I was very unimpressed with the performance and won't use it in the future.

without jacking this tread or starting a debate, just my 2 cents, I don't want a bullet to exit. I want it to use all it's energy in the target.

Matter of preference but I don't want it to come apart in either case. And staying together is the main selling point here.

If lasts over 4 hours consult a physician or a gunsmith.

Good advice and, of course, don't consult a spectacled mustacio.

"It radiates energy, empowers the predator and unleashes unthinkable performance..." = useless marketing hyperbole.
Having poked fun at their marketing *******, I do like 'purt near every kind of Federal ammo I've used, and wouldn't hesitate to give this a whirl as well.

The Fusion website is about as weird as the hype on their box!
Fusion Ammo - Fusion Ammo featuring Brock Lesnar
I don't think I have ever seen a mixed martial arts character used to market ammo before, but maybe it works for them.

I want it to expand, stay intact and make a blood pouring exit hole...matter of preference I suppose.

I've used it a few times in my .41mag.
The only thing I've noticed, is that it has WAY more recoil than any other factory load I've used.

I think it is marketing.
Sure, it's good, but not worth the big $$$$ better.

Actually, around here, it's pretty much bottom of the barrel for hunting/sd loads.

I would look for different qualities in a (deer) hunting vs. self defense load in .357 magnum.
