Federal 16 Gauge Buck
I just bought several boxes of 16g No. 1 Buck at my local gunshop. I guess this becomes available in the fall for deer season. I know I couldn't find any anywhere last spring.
My first shotgun (still have it) is a 16g. I never gave much thought to the availability of ammo for it as it always seemed pretty easy to come by. Last spring someone mentioned he was having a hard time finding 16g buckshot, so I offered to see if I could find him some. I was surprised to find that I was almost out myself. Just two Remington shells and three Winchesters. Then I found out that these two companies don't even make it anymore!
Federal still makes it, but good luck finding it after hunting season ends. A word to the wise...

I own and shoot several 16ga guns. A couple years ago at WalMart , they had Remington Game loads on sale for $3.77 box/25. They had probably 100 cases of 12ga , 100 cases of 20ga and 3 cases of 16ga. 1oz #7 1/2.
Yep , I bought all 3.

Winchester still lists 16ga #1 Buck on their website, and the hardware store hear still stocks it. Haven't tried the local gunshop for the scoop yet.

I stand corrected about Winchester (not) making it. When I was checking around last spring, Winchester did not list it on their website. Maybe they just do a run now and then, or maybe they do a run every fall...

Actually, Andy, Winchester says it is "#0" Buck. Anyways, it's buckshot!
(I just noticed they say it is "0 oz of #0 Buck" so obviously this has to contain at least one typo. Maybe the #0 should be #1. )

The old paper shell Winchester and Remington shells used #0 buckshot, whereas the plastic hulls use #1 buck. Why the change, I don't know.
Must be the hull and shotcup thickness. Paper hulls have no shotcup, whereas plastic hulls use a shotcup and therefore less room.
