Default Ammo Date of Manufacture

In the process of inventorying and inspecting my ammo I found a box of S&W .38 Special 125 gr Jacketed
Soft Point that was produced in Rock Creek Ohio. I keep records on all ammo that I purchase but have nothing on this one and only box (50 rnds) of S&W. Inside one end flap on the box is a number 7180221

My question: Is there anyway to find the date of manufacture. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A phone call, or e-mail to S&W might provide the answer you seek.

Look at the two smaller tabs on both ends of the box. There will be a calendar at one end with one month missing, plus the year. Take the missing month and year and you will have a pretty good idea of its date. What you are looking at is the date the box was printed by the printer and S&W went through many boxes. I collect this stuff and the dates range all over the place; the last dates were in 1981.
