Default Velocities in a 325 NG

I had a chance to chrono a few loads in a S&W 45 ACP NG.

Remington 230gr Ball 784 fps

Remington 230gr Golden Saber 770fps

Western Super Match 185gr F.M.C. Clean Cutting [Wadcutters] 740fps

I have had the Western Wadcutters for about 40 years.

I have shot some Remington Auto Rim 230gr Lead in the revolver as well, but have not chronoed it. It does kick less than the 230gr jacketed ammo.

Remington 185 gr +P HP shoots good and the recoil is not bad.

Thanks for the info. I have a 325PD and have tried 185gr and 230 grain ammo of various types and have found that expansion, at the velocities involved for the short barrel, has been pretty slight if at all. I think that a bullet that penetrates well but not too much is the goal for me with that revolver.

Frizz, Corbon makes a 165 gr. JHP load. Given that the weight is light, the bullet is a Sierra, and the maker is Corbon (hot), my guess is that you will get the expansion you want.

I keep the 230 Golden Sabre in my NG, and a few Moon Clips of 230 Ball near by as the Ball just falls into the cylinder on the reload...

Both hit with the sights... Both are very controlable...
