Default 40 rounds of old 38 s&w ammo

in original box. No corrosion on bullets. (see pic) FREE to anyone who will pick it up in Union, N.J.

I'm guessing ammo from the 1930s
Made by Remington Arms Union Metallic Cartridge Co.
Bullets and box in nice condition.

It's probably from the WWI era from the label. It does have some collectible value being that old, and the box being in that condition. I imagine you may get a visitor if you are giving it away.

Thanks 1644 you just helped me date some a friend brought by this week.

I guessed the 30's.

1644,

Do you still have the ammo? I am making a display case and that is exactly what I am looking for. I am very very interested.

Remington acquired U.M.C. in 1920, so it's post-WWI.

I'm in Roselle Park and have a Webley Mk IV. If you still have it I could use it.

Remington and UMC merged in 1911-1912. They were a major ammunition supplier during WW I. That box of ammunition could certainly be pre-war.

FWIW, that design ammo box and label is the earliest Remington-U.M.C. type, and dates from between 1911 and 1915.

And technically, it was U.M.C. (more specifically, Marcellus Hartley) that acquired Remington Arms Co. in 1888, the merger of the two companies into Remington Arms - U.M.C.Co. occurring in 1912.
