I bought a box of it earlier this year at a hardware store (!?) in rural Arizona, because I needed something to shoot with and none of my preferred brands were available anywhere. I wasn't expecting much from it and I was very pleasantly surprised. In my Model 36 it shoots to point of aim, is reasonably clean, and has modest recoil. It's obviously not top of the line stuff but it will do nicely in a pinch.

Try a box!
I've burned a few boxes. It's good ammo.

I have had very good results with the Independence brand.
Shot @ 10-15 bxs with no problems.
Great stuff for killin' paper targets !

130 FMJ is typically fine for target practice as noted above (heck I qualified expert the first time I shot it in the Air Force and that was the first time I'd ever shot a revolver), but usually very anemic for self defense. It's the old and infamous Air Force load. Accurate and wimpy.

Moxie is right!
It's good range ammo. Not a good idea at all for self defense.

I bought a box once when that was all that was available. It shot fine and I am still reloading the brass.

I saw quite a few of those .38s fired at our department range due to qualifications for the local armored car guys, decent practice ammo, made in the USA.
