9mm ammo

If your having as much trouble finding 9mm locally as I am we stopped by gander mountain today and they had 350rd boxes for $119. Not a great price for blazer brass 115 grain but its not horrible either and I've had good luck with it. Also picked up 2 of the 17rd mags. They had plenty of both in stock. They also had a special on some othe 9 bulk with a mail in rebate but were out. Happy to find what I did and thought I'd share. Mags were $39.99.

That's $.34 a round. Not good but not bad, and at least they had some in stock.

My best success was ordering 1000 rounds of 9mm from FreedomMunitions, which starts at $.26 a round in a box of 50 and goes down in larger lots (there are also shipping charges, but no tax).

Ordering in bulk just works out better than buying a box or two at a time from Wal-Mart (when they are in stock at Wal-Mart!).

It is probably reasonable to have a year's worth of ammo on hand. Just my opinion, yours might vary.

Not sure where you're seeing that. Neither their web site or gunbot lists this ammo.

Been using the Walmart Iphone app to search for ammo from time to time lately.



Was rewarded by finding some Federal Champion 115 FMJ at $14.77 a box of 50 ($0.295/round) last week at a store here in Tampa:

I've burned through 3000+ rounds of the 115gr remanufactured ammo with my 9fs with no problems. Buy it cheap and stack it deep.

I'm looking at their 500 rounds of New and even with Tax (They're outside Houston, TX) & shipping, it still comes down to the equivalent of $15/50 Round Box. Their Reman would make it cheaper than WWB (Value Packs).

You don't happen to have any 'Coupon Codes' for them, do you?

Yes, happy with the ammo. The cases are made in Turkey and bear the headstamp "Ammoland." The ammo is loaded in the US at Freedom Munitions' plant. It is uniformly good stuff.

The cases have an extra band of brass inside the case, around the webbing. I suspect this is because the same cases are loaded for SMG ammo at higher pressures, e.g., in Turkey perhaps? That's my theory. I
reload and checked these by depriming them and resizing them after firing some, and see no problems. However, for reloading, the space inside the case is a little smaller than usual, which means powder that just about fills the case at regular loadings -- Unique, for example -- might end up being compressed a bit, with possible untoward effects. If you do not reload, this does not matter.

I picked up some WWB for $14.99/50 rounds at Academy sports, which was only $1.00 more than Russian made Monarch. The Wally Worlds in my area never have any 9MM.

I ordered 500 'New' on Monday, it was processed by Tues and picked up by UPS (from the Spokane plant) on Weds.
Projected delivery is slated as Next Tues the 25th. Not bad.

If the 'new' runs as well as reported, I'll probably try the 'Reman' next time.

I scored a couple boxes of bullets just last night- when I ran the figures, the cost for me to load was $4.86 @ box of 50---for 9 MM. I cannot beat that price anywhere I know of. You must remember however, all my equipment has long ago paid for it's self, and I have a good stock of what I need.

What type of setup do you use and how long does it take to pump out 100 rounds?

I use an older REDDING Turret press. Once I sit down to do it, maybe 30 minutes. I also load the nine for both my sons. Being retired, time isn't a factor for me. I try and keep ahead so I never get caught short. Oh yes, powder is worked with a CHARGEMASTER --

I'd like to know how this is possible? I'm thinking of getting into reloading 9mm, but it seems like brass is .17 per case, bullets are .13, primers are .03 and powder is about .01. If you are only paying .09 per round are you just basing it on what the bullets cost since you already have the brass, powder, and primers?

You need to find a different source for bullets, I pay .07-.08 per bullet. You're pretty spot on with the primer and powder cost. That puts me at .11 to .12 per round which is still a bunch cheaper than factory ammo (from anywhere). I can see .13 for JHP but I don't use them for range or competition shooting. No one than I know buys 9mm brass, there is so much that is left on the floor at the range by casual shooters that I always come home with at least twice as much as I shoot.

Thanks! My range is outdoors and the policy is if it's not yours you can't pick it up. Any advice on progressive vs. single stage for a novice who will only be loading single caliber pistol?

My range has the same policy (supposedly) but I sweep up what's in my vicinity and that includes brass that was left by previous shooters (they don't sweep up after every shooter, I think they appreciate me doing it so they don't have to ) Best Press?, if you go over to the reloading forum you'll see all kinds of "discussions" about that. I use a Dillon 650, but I also load(and shoot) ~1200 per week. If you're sure you'll never ever want to load a rifle cartridge then look at the Dillon Square Deal, it's a good place to start and it will come all set up. I do think the first thing you should do is find some suitable pistol powder, that seems to be "shortage du jour" at the moment.

I have a Square Deal B and really like it. A word of caution though. Dillon claims the SDB comes ready to use out of the box but that's not true. Mine needed the flare, the seat depth and the crimp adjusted. Essentially, everything needed to be adjusted. It's not a big deal, just don't expect to take it out of the box, set it up and then start loading.

I have buckets, as in 41/2 gallon in size of once fired brass- it was free, and has been processed to the point it is ready to size and load. Primers cost me about a penny apiece and powder, maybe 2 cents. I have been at this for awhile-- bullets @8cents, are my only real expense, at 43.00 @500--

I don't even like paying 25 cents a round for 9mm and what gun were the mags for? $40 a mag seems awfully expensive and I wouldn't be bragging about paying that much.

Last time I bought 9mm ammo it was under $8/box and that bothered me enough to buy a set of dies.
