Those appear to be from the ammo brochure used thru 1978, when testing was done in unvented test barrels, not real guns. The copies of that brochure I have actually states that. In 1979 a new brochure was produced, and in it S&W used real handguns to test the ammo, and the velocities dropped significantly, in many cases over 20%.
In the 1979 ammo brochure it gives velocities out of 2", 4", and 6" Model 10's for the .38 Special. Soon, when I have time, I'll post side by side comparions from the two brochures, and it becomes obvious what a significant difference it made went they (along with the rest of the industry) moved from test barrels to real guns.
