Default J frames and .357 Mag ammo (esp. 125 grains)?

I keep hearing about the K frames and the dreaded 125 gr Magnum loadings. Is it O.K. to feed a J frame mag (M60) a quasi-steady diet of magnum rounds? Are the 125 worse than the 158's? Planned round counts include about 100-200 mags a year for as long as I own the gun, plus lots of 38's. Thanks.

I've shot some from my Model 60-5. Even with Pachmyrs they are pretty brutal to shoot. You won't be shooting too many. I would describe the recoil as painful.

I've put a couple thousand full house 125 grainers through my J framish Taurus 605. It had to get timing and endshake issues addressed, but it is still going strong.

To answer your question, K, I would go for it. Just make sure all your screws are tight after every practice. The splitting is, IMO, a K frame issue. I am curious, however, about what others have experienced and think.

i shoot the rem. 125gr. sjhp in my 640-1 without any problems, but that was because i had it Magna-Ported. before that i could only fire about 20 or so without having to switch hands.

Go ahead and shoot as many as you want. Even if you do split a barrel shank or even crack a frame, at least barrels and frmaes are still available and repairs should be under warrantee. And if you do break one we will have the start of new anecdotal evidence that there is an issue with J Magnum frames too.

I shot several 125s out of my 60 but like the previous post before it was the recoil issue I didnt care for. I didnt want to have any problems with my K frame 0 thru -3s so I bought a 686-4 prelock with Mims parts just for punishing and putting everything I can through it. In the end Ill let everyone know how that works out.

Remington Golden Sabre 125 grain .357 mag JHP is a reduced power load. Easier on the revolver and your hand but you still know you are shooting a magnum load.

A couple of hundred 125 full house Federals through my 649 and carry them as well. If you've got the grip, they work and hit point of aim for me. Wouldn't exactly call it recreational plinking using them though.....

My limit is about 20 rounds a session.

Thanks all. I planned on shooting it as I normally would, I was just curious if there was an issue with the smaller guns. The 125gr Rem GS load is the carry load, but I usually shoot whatever I can get in the way of range loads. Recoil isn't too bad, but it is a 3" M60 Pro with the larger grips (and I own a 329pd if that tells you anything).

My wife (it's her revolver) usually puts about 10 mags downrange per session, with the balance being 38's. I put a few downrange with it myself, it's a fun gun that shoots great.
