The GAP is a shorter round, and operates at higher pressures, to attempt to make .45 ACP ballistics in guns with a 9mm/.40 frame size and cycle dwell. If you pick up a Glock in .45 GAP, you'll see that the frame is the same size as a 9mm, .357 Sig or .40 S&W, but the slide is the thickness of those in 10mm or .45 ACP. Personally, I don't care for them.

Default Also I think the GAP rim is acually smaller in diameter

than the case itself as well as the case being shorter. I have some spent GAP brass at home and can check if it is critical.

The 45 GAP is not simply a shortened 45ACP. The brass is thicker to operate at higher pressures to achieve 45 ACP ballistics in a 9mm/40 size gun as stated above. The rims are very close. I often get a GAP case in with my 45's when reloading and they fit the 45 shellplate. Matching the 45acp ballistics was not a problem due to the number of excellent propellents avaialble today. The 45acp is quite capable of going beyond it's century old ballistics with todays propellents. Those of us with 45acp revolvers can shoot GAP's with moon clips if one wanted to. I was reloading some 455 Webley's a while back and noticed that the GAP is basically a rimless 455. Their case lengths are almost identical. I guess what goes around comes around. Bob

Thanks guys, I appreciate the answers, as I am considering a .45ACP M&P pistol, and was wondering what the didfference was. I have the M&P .40c and was looking into the .45ACP full size. The ammo choices had me a bit confused as I have never dealt with the .45! Again, thanks to all....
