Good afternoon gentlemen as I am new and this is my first post. If I do it wrong let me know but not to hard. I was wandering what the members thought of the new Hornady CDI ammunition. I bought some .38 Special CDI for my 442 and am hoping it will be the ammunition for my carry gun. I didn't buy the +P 38special as the little gun kicks enough without it. The muzzle energy is around 250 lbs ft with a 4" barrel but I don't know what it would be at 2" but its probably as good as any standard 38 special ammo.

Welcome aboard. CD is decent ammo. IIRC, Corbon 110 gr. +P DPX kicks little, if any, harder and is better ammo. It's bullet should do better against auto glass and it is a more reliable expander. Take a look at DPX and CD in the thread titled Perma-Gel Test Result. I have tested both of the above loads.

In standard pressure there aren't nearly as many choices as +P. IMO CD is as good as anyone else's std. pressure load. Federal Nyclad and target wadcutters are two other non+P loads that are quite popular.
