Speer Gold Dot is great in ANY caliber, the new Win. PDX1 is pretty good, Win Ranger or Federal HST if you can find it, and I really like Corbon DPX but it's pretty expensive.

My best online sources are Ammunition To Go and Tactical Defense Solutions. There's also a great one that was just posted, Luckygunner.com.

I like the win pdx1 that is one mean looking hollowpoint mine are 180gr and quoted at 1025 fps with muzzel energy at 420, and claims to have a uniform 6 pedal expansion to 1.5 times it's original diameter

I've had good luck and results with Magtech Guardian Gold 155 Gr JHP. Great combo of mass and velocity.

BTW, MidwayUSA.com has had a decent stock of .40 cal lately... prices may be another thing but if there's something in particular you want it could be a good option.

It's hard to pick a bad .40 loadings.

Seriously.

Gold Dot, Ranger-T, DPX or HST are the best available right now, but the others work too.

I had problems with the Magtech Guardian Gold. Halfway through the mag, the rounds would work forward a bit and catch the LRHO lever, which would hold the nose of the round down and jam it into the feed ramp. I tried several different mags and they all did it. I calipered the rounds and found that they varied quite a bit and were mostly near the long side of OAL. I switched to the Remington UMC 180gr JHP that I had and had no problems at all. These rounds were very consistent in length, closer to the shorter end of OAL. Not sure if the Golds worked their way forward due to the higher muzzle velocity or what, there is quite a difference in recoil between them and the other rounds that I normally shoot.

Hi folks
In Italy unfortunately is not possible to use any hollow point or similar. For self defense, only full metal jacket......

We're stuck with the same BS here in NJ. Take a look at Federal. Their Premium Personal Defense EFMJ rounds were made just for this situation. They make them in 9mm, .40S&W, and .45ACP.

Federal Premium - Handgun Ballistics

Federal Premium handgun loads are the best around. Hydra-ShokŪ is the first choice for many military and law enforcement officials across the globe, while Expanding Full Metal Jacket (EFMJ) is unmatched in non-hollow point technology. EFMJ provides higher energy, more reliable expansion, lower risk of collateral damage and reduced recoil—vitally important features for a personal defense round <== their quote not mine.

Get a big bore revolver and use wadcutters. Federal EFMJ (expanding full metal jacket) or Corbon Powerball would be ideal, if the law allows them and they're available. I doubt you'll have any luck, though.

Wadcutters will work very well if properly placed. Good luck.

Very interesting the federal EFMJ. I don't know if exist in Italy. I would like to have more info from Italian distributor. I've a question: What kind of material there is inside the bullet? there is rubber tip that collapses on impact?
What do you think about the barrell, does not dirty rubber?

(Sorry for my bad english.......)

Alberto, my memory tells me that the bullet has a lead basewith a rubber tip sitting on top of it. The bullet's jacket is copper and completely covers the lead and rubber parts of the bullet. The jacket is prestressed so that when it's nose smashes in it forms tears along the side that allow it to "crunch" and expand. Think of a car hitting a wall and the hood folds in the middle and bends so that it points up. That's what the bullet does. Do a google search and you're likely to find images posted.

BTW, your English is actually pretty good. Hang around here and it will only get better.
