I'm right here, and I stocked up in 06/07 at prices below what you'll pay now. Shrug. Do what you want. Centerfire ammo has a shelf life of 100 plus years if well stored.

Yes, prices are still high. I look for sales.

Yes, some stuff is still hard to get (.357 mag oddly enough). I reload.

You don't have to have it all right now, but with enough time and patience, you'll get it eventually.
Wise words, this has been my practice for years. Slow and steady accumulation.

After a good long sleep...........I woke up to find I've all most used up all my $28.00/k 38 bullets and I'm now haveing to use 100.00+/k bullets. Decided I need another 10k bullets and instead of 300.00 I now need a grand of cash. Lead bullets don't eat and the Gov don't tax it afer I own it.
I've got to Agree with RedLevel I buy a box of whatever when ever I can.
I'm a Big Fan of the 22 Long. A year ago i realized I was all most out.
Wife asked why are we out? Only answer I had was becaused I never Stocked up since I could get it anytime I wanted it. Those Day's are GONE. I've since got a thousand rounds of 22 longs and feel like I'm Way Under Stocked!
Incase you ask. I've got an 1890 22 Long Winchester that's Long only.

Default Ammo shortage

As may others have, I've been stocking up, and I'm beginning to see some increases in supplys, at least at Wal-Mart. Also I just finished an NRA article about how NYC Mayor Bloomberg is pushing the government/Obama to do an end-round around legislation and utilize Executive Orders to do what cannot be done via the congress. DO NOT think "they" are above issuing whatever "emergency" mandates are necessary to achieve their ends. i.e. KEEP BUYING!

That is ok by me. Just hate the panic mode and people that buy just to buy (for resale or profitering) and I don't have anything against capitialism (we own a business). When you see boxes of ammo buy a box or two and leave some for the next guy so we are all well stocked up!!!

Don't worry about gun legislation. Obamanation is not going to go that route. Too difficult with groups like the NRA keeping watch. His latest move is to sign international treaties using the UN as the avenue. No need to involve Congress, who is all ready feeling the pinch from voters regarding his other actions.

Don't think for a minute that O and Hilliary aren't coming for your guns. They want you to feel at ease so you won't see it coming.

The President can't commit the US to a treaty without the "advice and consent" of the Senate. It requires a 2/3 vote for passage. If the Senate ever reaches the point where 67 members would ratify such a treaty, we would have much worse problems.

Well here in Illinois when you find ammo prices are 3x pre Obama. Now at Gander Mountain prices are 5x pre Obama.

The whole shortage thing was a little weird, part panic, part the economic downturn, part the election results, throw in a bit of profiteering and voila, guys are paying $100 per thousand for primers and beating the swampers to WallMart every morning.

I reload, but not for every caliber I shoot, and try to keep a supply of both components and ammo on hand. I've probably got more 223 than I'll ever shoot in the remainder of my life, same with .22 rimfire. Other calibers, I try to pick up a few extra boxes above and beyond what I shoot each month, keep a little more trickling into the inventory than going out at any given time. Same with certain reloading components.

One thing about these shortages, we can bitch about them all we want and complain about the politicians, the hoarders (sounds like that might be us!!), and the profiteers, but it seems there are shortages of just about everything at one time or another. I recall gas shortages, coffee shortages, sugar, flour, rice, lumber, and the list could go on. I think we tend to be pretty powerless to predict most of it, or to safeguard against all possible shortages or future events. I have a crystal ball on my office desk.......but it is typically cloudy!!

Even if you panicked and bought and paid more than you should have....give it about three years and, if you can still buy it, it will look like a good deal, prices never go down.

MTKTM,

You left out the value of the dollar going down the toilet and the consumption of ammo for Afganistan and Iraq.

Purchased 300 rounds of 45 ACP today on GunBroker, and the beat goes on. Thats $ 897.97 spent on ammo this year, so far.
