Remington's New Home Defense ammo
Handgun Ammunition - HD Ultimate Home Defense
So my local Bass Pro has the 9MM 124gr (HD9MMB) on the shelf for under $20 a box. Looks just like Golden Saber aside from the packaging.
In the same store regular Golden Saber (GS9MMB) is close to $30 a box.
Both come in boxes of 25.
So why is the HD on the market so much cheaper?
Remington's website list their ballistics as being identical so best I can tell it's just the same ammo in different boxes.

There is an obvious marketing ploy. If you look at the box pictured, it states you are getting 5 extra rounds, so they are supposedly pricing it as a box of 20.
A not so obvious ploy is that the ammunition is probably not quite exactly like the standard Golden Saber ammo. They are most likely not using any kind of sealant to weather proof the ammunition, since it is intended to only be used in the home.

It would, IMHO, the 2 ?? above be researched.

I handled some of the .45 ACP today. The primer was sealed. I can think of no reason why Remington would use non flash suppressed powder.
My guess is that it's a marketing thing to compete with some of the newer offerings by other companies.

I noticed on their website that they list 40S&W 180s' @1150fps, that sounds more like 165 weights, in fact it's 135fps faster than their Golden Saber 180.

I was pondering the same just last night. Methinks it's all about marketing: a tacticool name and lower price will elicit more sales and make up the difference with volume. They hope...
As the Proffesor suggests, I'd like to see someone compare powders and such.

A thought on the "5 extra rounds" thing:
I think Winchester's new Bonded PDX1 comes in boxes of 20 and it's the obvious competitor to Remington's offering.

Golden Sabres have always been made with brass jackets so far as I know.

According to a Rep I talked with it's a competative move by Remington to out do Hornady's "Critical" Defense line of ammo which is doing pretty well and comes in boxes of 25 for around 20 bucks. mtcw.

I think the non bonded GS will eventually become the HD, and the Golden Saber Bonded will carry on as the premium SD round from Remington.
