.38 Special Priced at .50/round?
One of my students is starting to shoot silhouettes with a model 14.
Just looked around for .38 ammo for her, and it seems the going prices are in the .50/round range.
Is THAT the current going price for FMJ and LSWC's??
(I won't let her practice or compete with my reloads. It's a liability thing.)
her first match last Sat.

Got a match coming up Saturday. No time now to load anything. Found Remington 158 gr. RNL at $20/50 rds. Bought it. Either that or not participate in the match. Cheapest .38 Special I've seen.

$0.25/round at Georgia Arms.
Factory new from various locations in the $0.30-0.38 per round range.
If you're willing to shop online, you can find lots of good deals.

Yep! They had similar pricing for 130 grain FMJ Remington at Dick's Sporting Goods the last time I bought at a local retail store.
Since I only reload for my Garand, mail order has become the only way I can afford to shoot revolvers. Buying online involves some lead time. Out of necessity, there are usually at least 10 boxes on hand at any point in time.
If you have any interest, try the ammoseek.com web site. They do not sell anything. They just collect pricing from a variety of people who do and present the information conveniently.

That's a little odd. Loading for the .38 Special is a heck of a lot easier than loading 30-06 ammo. Why would you not load .38 Special ammo since you can probably load 200 or more rounds for the price of buying 50 rounds?
I'm not jumping on your choices, I'm just curious.

No worries! I usually tell people I am just too lazy, which is partly true.
But mostly, although she has no interest in shooting the Garand, my wife joins me in shooting all of our various handguns. If I loaded something that caused her injury, I would never forgive myself.
It is also worth noting that I am old. We may already have a lifetime supply of ammunition accumulated over the years while it was affordable.

Reality
Yep, $20 to $25 a box is the going rate - unless you come across a deal.
And gas is $4, and can of tuna costs almost a buck - unless you come across a deal.
The truth is that you have to pay more to shoot, drive, or eat.
Or you can choose to shoot, drive or eat less.

She cooks. I do the mechanical and electrical "stuff".
No point in disturbing the balance of power.
But, thanks for the suggestion.
