Who uses 22WRF in S&W 22Magnums
Does anyone have any experiences to share regarding the use of Winchester or CCI loadings of this vintage cartridge? In particular, have you used it in S&W revolvers?

Back in days of old when I owned a M51 Kit Gun I shot plenty of .22 WRF through it without problem. It was a much more pleasant experience than with the .22 Magnum round. Somewhere I have heard that CCI does not recommend using their jacketed .22 WRF in revolvers, but I cannot quote a source for that information.
Ah, found the article about CCI .22 WRF ammo:

I used to shoot quite a bit of it in a Colt New Frontier .22/.22 magnum, and liked it a lot. If it was more available and cheaper I'd probably never shoot anything else in that gun.

That chuckhawks article makes no sense to me, as regards the jacketed bullets in CCI WRF ammo. I'll have to research that a bit more. Okay, I looked at CCI's site, and they say that "most .22 revolvers have undersized bores," making jacketed bullets unsuitable. Wellll, maybe, maybe not. Some do, some don't.
I've shot a few, very few rounds of CCI WRF through my old Ruger Super Single Six, and even fewer through my Model 51. Seemed to work fine in both. I mostly have it to use in my old Remington Model 12C rifle, though, and it performs wonderfully in it.

Did you shoot the Winchester or the CCI brand? I can't find the Winnies rite now, but I'm fearfull of trying the CCIs in my Mod 650.

I used the Winchester brand ammunition. That was long before the CCI ammunition was in production. I found the Winchester ammunition listed as available from the Bass Pro Show website.

if I feel the need for a little extra power and not use the 22 mag I use the CCI velocitor as it is certainly more consistent.
Out of a M-48 6 inch the CCI WRF was a 780 low , 988 high , 218 es , 890 avg and 59 sd.
Out of a K-22 6 inch the CCI Velocitor was a 1062 low , 1116 high , 54 es , 1096 avg and a 18 sd.
I also believe the Velocitor is a couple of dollars less in cost.
the Velocitor bullet is 40 grains and the WRF bullet is 45 grains but I don't feel that is much to worry about.

WRF bullet diameter
I just recieved an email reply from CCI. They say the diameter of their 22WRF bullet is .2265! That's hugh even for a 22MAG bore of .224 I will only use the Winchester round in my J Frame

Wow! Now I understand why they work so well in my old 12CS with a bulge in the barrel!

I was not surprised to hear that Velocitors outperformed WRFs, but I didn't think it was by that much! Your point is very well taken. My reason for WRF use arises from snake phobia. I carry the magnum cylinder in order to employ the CCI MAG Shotshells. They are much more effective than the LR loading. That being so, I wanted to have a less obtrusive round in last 4 chambers with the Mag shotshells in the first 2. Did you ever use or chrono the Winchester WRF? I hope it is more consistant than CCI. I wonder if the .2265 bullet in the CCI is part of the reason for the large spread. Thanks for your input.
