Default New Internet Handgun Ammo Laws?

I read in a post on a .44 spl defense ammo thread something about new laws regarding internet handgun ammo sales as of February 2011. This is the first I've heard of this, I did a search across the forum but didn't come up with much. Can you folks enlighten me?

Thanks............

A brief google search came up with several hits regarding this. It's a California state law, so it doesn't effect you or I right now. (just don't sell any ammo to anyone in Cal. Over the net...)
Did California pass a new law limiting the amount of ammo one can purchase? - Yahoo! Answers

I am actually very surprised that the DETESTABLE Eric Holder et. al have not tampered, as of yet, on firearms, ammo and accessories.

Inaction is sometimes a code word for, "STAY TUNED!"

True, but California, like Texas and a couple other states, tend to be the trend-setters of new laws which eventually creep through many to most of the states. That's what worries me. Must remain vigilent.

Don't forget to vote for Brady!

Bans people in Ca from buying HANDGUN AMMO over the net. It is being challenged in court already by Ca shooters.

Just another attack by the anti gun loons in CA as they see the court cases going against gun laws nation wide.

We're hoping that the court challenges will prevail, but I'm hedging my bets now and stocking up.

The politico's have finally figured it out that while the right to bear arms is soundly protected by the Second Amendment, ammunition and components (primers & powder) are not and can be regulated to their hearts content.

Why are you picking on Texas? Our Leglislature only meets for six months EVERY TWO YEARS. They don't sit around all year thinking up and passing new laws, like other states. It Texas was truely a tend setter the rest of the nation would be in a heck of a lot better shape.

LOL! One thing I know for sure and would never do is: "don't mess with Texas!"

Frankly, I was thinking about the text book controversy of a few months ago, but you can also come up with good examples as well. Certainly not an attack on Texas; just showing the power the larger states have...

Sorry. If it's only handgun ammo, than by all means keep selling rifle/shotgun ammo to California folks, but I must say, all the sources I found on line (which were summaries, not the actual law itself, so this is by no means conclusive), said "ammo", not "handgun ammo"... I also didn't see that this covered components, but some here imply that it does...

I hope you guys get this thrown out soundly. On the other hand, until it is, my advice is sound -- we wouldn't want to be suggesting anyone break the law on purpose.

madmikeb, here is more info on the mail order ammo ban.

California’s Mail Order Ammo Ban ‘AB962’ goes into effect February 1, 2011. This bill states that all handgun ammo sales in California will require a face-to-face transaction between buyer and seller, and that sellers must obtain a thumbprint, do a background check and obtain ID from the buyer. This bill also prevents California ammunition-makers and California ammo sellers from selling their products to customers outside the state. It also includes all rifle ammo that can be used in a handgun.

AB962 was originally conceived to cut down on crime and gang violence but the bill also punishes law-abiding citizens and interferes with and restricts legitimate business in California. AB962 is currently being challenged in the California courts under the Commerce Clause of the U.S. Constitution that states Congress has been given authority to regulate interstate commerce.

I have three .45's and they're all 3rd Gen S&W. The 4506 will gobble up everything from 200 gr LSWC's to the widest mouth JHP currently made. Ditto for the others.

In the 457 I've found a good, reliable SD load is the Ranger T 230 gr JHP. If I decide the 4506 is going to be my SD pistol for the week, I use my stash of 200 gr Speer Flying Ashtray's as it simply loves them. the 4566TSW is luck of the draw. It seems to cull no bullet style or velocity.

In short with what's available, I'd use the Ranger T's or GDHP's.
