Stopped at a Sporting Goods Store with a visiting Son this A.M.
Discovered .38spl 158gr LRN ammo (Re-manufactured) by Ultramax.
Anyone used this ammo?
Paid $15.00 per 50rd. box.
I was being to think 158gr ammo was not available anymore.

The powder they use in the Ultramax is very smokey and filthy. No FTF or Squibs that I experienced but your hands will be black after about 10 rounds. I don't buy that brand anymore.

That was my experience too, reminded me of the soot/residue that black powder loaded cartridges produced when I shot a box a friend gave for use in Cowboy Action Shooting.

I'd rather pay a few bucks more to bypass that experience, especially when I'm at an indoor range.

I went to an indoor range in Knoxville, TN while visiting relatives, and they have a sign prominantly posted that they do not allow Ultramax ammo to be used there.

I bought a box of 158gn SWC by Ultramax. I fired six rds through my Model 15-3, and I could have sworn it was loaded with blackpowder.
I will have to use it up, but I'm not looking forward to the cleaning job.

I have used the 9mm 125 gr. RNL Ultramax ammo and it was filthy. It did however function in both a 92FS and a Sigma without a hitch. Accuracy was OK out of the Sigma not so much with the 92FS.

The only AR I've ever personally seen that blew up was blown with Ultramax ammo. They finally owned up that they'd probably loaded two bullets in one case and replaced the rifle. (Those 110 gr. .223 loads are HOT!) Doesn't mean all their ammo is bad, but I've avoided it. I've not shot any of their handgun ammo, but I've seen others shoot some, and, as noted above, it was dirty.

I've tried it in 45 auto and 9 mm . I will not buy it again

Fired a hundred rounds of their .38 Special 130gr hardball and had no issues. To me, just as clean/dirty as CCI Blazers and they put the holes in the paper just fine. Only paid $12.99 a box for them though.

I tried some in 9mm -- 115 grain FMJ as I remember. It was the only brand of ammo that I've ever shot in my 3913LS that grouped poorly.

Cheap? Yes. Smoky and flamy? Yes. Turned my blued Taurus M82 dark gray! MillerUSAF on YouTube recommends it, if you cannot get hollow point ammo. I agree with the thought on the SWC's design. I like them, i.e, one load, one style round, 158 gr., works in sister carbine real well, but Ultramax boxes will be refilled and labeled for Georgia Arms SWC rounds that arrive in bags.
