Question Hirtenberger short range lead free 5.56

Hirtenberger short range lead free 5.56 marked HP with 5.56 223 on headstamp. The bullet is very lightweight with a sabot of copper with a black plastic insert.

The dealer I bought from said it was an embassy round and non lethal at over 30 yards or so. I'm not buying the story but the ammo seems to be very well made and should make a good training round for use on the 25 yard combat course we have at our public range.

Has anyone used this stuff before? I got it for $5 for a box of 20 so figured I couldn't go wrong, I hope. Was this ammo used for training or did it have a police or military use. Not much out on the net about this stuff.

Thanks for the info.

I have some of that ammo. It was on the inexpensive end of the price range at the time. I do believe it was made as a short range training round. I think others tried to adapt it to other jobs. I have seen some that was said to have come from a nuclear facility.

"Embassy round"? Really? I just love some of these stories that people make up to sell ammo because they have absolutely no idea of what they have.

No, it was not an "Embassy" round. Yes, it is a short range training round. And no, I wouldn't suggest that you test out the "30 yards" claim from the gun shop commando either.

That is half the fun of gun shows. You never know what kind of stories your going to hear.

No, it was not an "Embassy" round. Yes, it is a short range training round.

But, the guy at the gun show said it was an embassy round so it has to be true.

And no, I wouldn't suggest that you test out the "30 yards" claim from the gun shop commando either.
Nope don't want to be in front of an M4 no matter what it is loaded with.
