practice round compared to carry round...3913
I always thought I should closely match my range rounds w/ my carry rounds in all my revolvers...now I have a nice 3913 in my life. What is the "good match" of available practice rounds vs. carry rounds for my newest love...I do not want to carry +P+, so what works for POA to POI for S&W's finest auto--loader 9mm???

Any FMJ that has a similar bullet weight and velocity as your intended SD ammo will serve quite well. If you want to go a bit "high end" find a source for Speer Lawman TMJ, it's very clean shooting with superb quality.
The most accurate 38 spl. I've ever shot in my 620 was 125 gr. Lawman and cleanup was a breeze. Too bad they stopped making it. Now the only offering is a 158 gr. +P and it's not a good match for most 38 +P SD loads which normally run either 125 or 130 grain. However it does meet the minimum for Minor in IDPA so it'll be a great gaming load.

Dave: I have used 3913s ever since they were introduced. I have had great luck at purchasing any old dirt cheap ammo for practice as long as it is the same bullet weight as my carry loads. POI has certainly been close enough for self-defense distances. Of course your 3913 should be sighted in using your dead serious carry load.
I haven't posted this trick for some years and now would be a good time to bring it up again. For the absolute finest sight in job on any open sight pistol do it at night. Get a board the right size to put up against your front bumper between the headlights, sit on the ground and lean back against the board with the head lights on normal, put a belt around your knees to rest your hands on, use a round target of gray on a white background at your selected distances. You will be astounded at the clarity and sharpness of your sights vs. the target. Obviously you need to be at a range or a gravel pit where night shooting is allowed. I have been knows to call the County Sheriff's Dispatchers and let them know what was going to take place at my shooting site. ............. Big Cholla

All things considered would you rank the desired ammo (practice & SD) for a 3913 as 124gr (first), 115gr (second), & 147gr (last)??

I could certainly live with your selection of 1 to 3. .......... Big Cholla
