Default S&W model 17 leading

I recently bought a S&W model 17-3 in like new condition that seams to lead the barrel badly with High velocity 22 ammo. I'm going to try standard velocity ammo next time I'm out but I rather shoot H.V. Ammo. Any suggestion on a certain type of 22 ammo if I can find it. Thanks

I've never had a problem with any ammo in my K-22s, except with Remington Thunderbolts, which are just terrible, the worst .22 out there IMHO. I had extreme leading, even a partial barrel blockage, with them in my pre-18. On account of them, I avoid all Remington .22.

When in doubt, I turn to my favorites, CCI Mini Mags or Fiocchi HV. Both are super clean and consistent. I hunt them down and grab them whenever I can find them for $0.10/rd or less, so I've got a nice stockpile.

A friend of mine has an older model 17, (late 1940's model) and it leads badly with Remington standard velocity, does better with CCI ammo. Try different ammo and see if that helps.
