Default Hornady critical defense

A few days ago I asked for advice on .380 ammo and got a lot of great reply's (Thank You) The one thing that stuck in my small mind was that one member had some problems with Hornady primers, Has there been known problems with this product that would keep you from using Critical Defense ammo to save your butt.
Thanks, Buckey08

I use it exclusively and have been using it since it came out. Not a single failure to feed, fire or eject out of an LCP and not a single failure out of my wheelguns. It's always possible that a big manufacturer could have some ammo fail but I think it if was happening at an alarming rate you would hear about it on the boards and I've not seen any threads or posts other that the one in that other thread. It could be the person had a spring issue or contaminated primer-as two of my friends experienced--one was with Winchester ammo and the other was Federal.

Ulitmately it is up to you to go out and try the different types of ammo to see what works best for you. I don't think there have been enough if any shootings with the Critical Defense to even see what it's performance really is. Once you start seeing the data on real life shootings and not just the gelatin tests people will either keep buying the stuff or it will go away. I have seen the video on the .380 stuff going through the FBI protocol of cloth and then into gelatin and it penetrated to 10". The stuff was never intended for law enforcement to use as duty ammo. LE NEEDS ammo that might penetrate windshield glass & wallboard etc and still keep going. People carrying out on the street don't generally need something that penetrates a windshield and then into the bad guy--if thats the case why not drive the hell away or over the bad guy instead of getting into a gun fight(Clint Smith theory). If you think about it getting through the brain or to the heart/lungs, do you need more than 10" to 12" of penetration-no and a .380 should be able to do that. If you are looking to take out spines or hips then you need to step up to a larger caliber.

A LOT of what ALL the manufacturers print about their self defense ammo is pure nonsense and hype. SOME of it is factual. Some folks poo poo the idea of carrying FMJ but if that is what YOU feel comfortable with then thats what matters most. I know I sure as heck don't want to be shot with fmj even if it were out of a lowly .25acp. I like the Hornady because it feeds like fmj but does expand--same for the Cor Bon Powrball which I have used.
