A friend owns one and he tried a bunch of different ammo. He said he got great results with American Eagle 40gr LRN bullets. (bulk pack not plated)

I personally prefer the lead bullets. I do not like the chore of using copper cleaning chemicals (smells up my work shop) to dissolve the copper residue. Lead cleans up easier, is less costly, and is readily available in a bunch of configurations.

In my M15, I shoot 158 grain RNL for plinking and target shooting. Minimal leading, great accuracy, reasonable price.

AA (above poster) has mistaken the M15 -38 Spl. for a M18 22LR revolver I believe.

I prefer the lead myself, its a little dirtier but my M&P functions flawlessly with the lead tips. I do not think their is a best tip one, I think it what you prefer. I shoot federal 510,510b,blazers, american eagle, fed automatch for my plinking fun.

No, I didn't mistake anything. The S&W M&P 15-22 is a purpose built AR15 style 22 Caliber rimfire rifle. I provided the link since you don't seem to be familiar with it. It's a hoot to shoot too...
