.357 Hydra Shok?
Is the Federal Hydra Shok still available in the 357 caliber? I have looked for a few weeks now and can't find any. If not, what rounds would you carry for self defense?

I've been on a .357 ammo hunt lately, just testing out a wide variety of loads in my new 686 to see what it likes to eat. So far I haven't found any hydrashok either, but for self defense most of the guys on here seem to agree on Remington Golden Sabres, Speer Gold Dots, Winchester Silver Tips or Hornady Critical Defense. Let me know what you find out

Real good. Thanks for the info. I used to use hydra shok in my M-19 years ago and loved them, but have not looked for any in 10 years or so.

According to the Federal Ammo Site they are still producing a 130gr and a 158gr .357 Magnum round with a Hydra-Shok bullet. That doesn't mean you will find them in the stores, just like you can't find Winchester .357 Magnum Silvertips.

Thanks for the info, I had seen they still listed them on their website but wasn't sure if that meant they still produced them. You are right about not finding them in stores or online. I have been looking for about 3 weeks now. Who knows, maybe I will run across a box one day.

Dang, that bothers me! I like the 158 grain HS. It's my usual .357 load, and I'm getting low on them.

Ammo To Go, has federal 158Gr. hydra-shock ammo for sale. At $55.00 for 50 rounds it's expensive though.

Thanks so much guys, I will be ordering those even at that price! I may not shoot them but at least I can carry them for self defense.
