Default 32 S&W long ammo Q

Hello All
I have been searching for the best 32 S&W round for self defense from a snubbie. i have read alot of info here and there & it seems like the wadcutter is preferred.
seems like some folks load some pretty nice rounds but i have not the equiptment. (yet)
maybe someone here knows a special place to find the best.
please i have other more powerful carry guns so we can skip all the (you should carry a ____________.)
regards
Mike

If you are looking for S&W Long they usually have some Magtech SJHP's, but looks like that is out of stock right now. It shoots very well (accurate) out of my old Smith. They do have Remington 32 S&W.

You can take any of the standard lead round nose offerings and simply file down the tip to give it a flat point. You can also try cutting an "X" in the tip. Both are very old tricks and both somewhat improve (eh, probably) on the lead round nosed offerings.

I like the Remington ones, both because Bass Pro usually has them, and because the lead seems a bit softer.

Georgia Arms does produce a very good product, and should be supported, if only because they fought, and won, their battle with the U.S. government over the sale of once fired military brass. Our government wanted to scrap the brass and sell it to China rather than have it in the hands of American citizens, reused and reloaded buy GA. I have never used their 32 S&W Long ammo, but I have used a lot of their other stuff. They are almost always at the gun shows I frequent. That being said, Magtech claims 778MV/132ft. Lb. from the 98 grain SJHP. Their LRN is some what milder. What really surprised me was the great groups I got with that ammo out of my S&W 32 HE (c. 1950). That little gun became a tack driver. I bought several more boxes. I have not used it in any of my other 32 longs, but that's my load for the 32 HE.

BTW, I have never been a fan of Magtech until I used this one. The 32 HE is compact, reliable, accurate, and 6 shots. With SJHP's it's deadly in the right hands.

I have several revolvers chambered in .32 caliber, and have tried a good many of the factory .32 S&W Long loads currently available. For target work, I prefer either Fiocchi wadcutters or FMJ. For other purposes, I really like the Magtech SJHP mentioned above, they shoot like a dream in my Model 632 Airweight.

Both the Fiocchi wadcutters and Magtech SJHP are currently available online at The Sportsman's Guide. The Fiocchi FMJ are usually available at ammo to go, but are currently out of stock.

Ga Arms are good folks. Always willing to help.

I have been using their .32 loads for some time now. Yes, they used a Hornady bullet at one time. Lately the stuff I'm getting is an 85gr plated HP.

For a while during the ammo/component crunch they were loading a 100gr plated HP. The latter load seemed a good bit hotter than the 85gr; recoil in the Dick Special felt almost like a .38 wadcutter. I'm hoarding those right now as they went back to loading the 85gr.

Not been able to chrono any of them out of the 2" gun yet, nor line up some milk jugs.

I have a couple of boxes of Lapua wadcutters that might be useful for carry also.

Checking out the MagTech and Aguilla offerings is "on the list".

The plain round nose is better than a handful of rocks, but not by much

Regards,

Pat
