Help with ammo for the wife's new M&P
I've ordered a M&P9c with CT laser from Bud's Gun Shop for my wife.....as her nightstand, around the house weapon. She'll also use it when she takes her CCW course.
When I get it I plan to put a few hundred rounds of my 9mm reloads through it, for reliability....and just for the fun of it!!
Also, I've never shot an M&P and this will be an opportunity to spend some quality range time shooting steel with it.
I'd appreciate some input on relatively light recoil HP loads for HD and SD purposes. I carry Speer 135gr +P's in my Glocks, but would like something for her with less "snap."

Standard pressure 115-124 gr loads. I would say something other than the gold dot so you don't unintentionally mix up your ammo.

I'd let her shoot the thing first with the carry ammo you have around before searching for something new.
115 grain, even the hot CorBon, has always had less recoil than the heavier offerings in my experience. Even standard pressure 124. Following that theme I'd try some quality 124s then 115s if the stuff you have is too much.

"I carry Speer 135gr +P's in my Glocks"
Speer does not make such a thing. At least currently.

Corbon DPX 115 gr +P. Lightest recoil of any +P round I've shot. Barely noticeable. Excellent penetration.

+1 for the Hornady, it is what I carry everyday. Low Flash and recoil. My wife has shot about 50 rnds of it in my SW9VE and has no problems with it.

Federal HST in 124 or 147 is probably the best 9mm defensive load curently available. Do a search for ballistics testing on this round and you'll see why!

That's my wife's carry gun. We tried several combinations of bullet weight and powder charge until she decided this was for her:
147 GR. XTP over 3.5 grs. Titegroup.
The velocity is sub-sonic ~ 900 fps, so you will experience higher POI. The recoil is more back than up (less flip, more chug).
As always, start at the minimum (3.2) and work your way up. Maximum per the Hodgdon data is 3.6.
All the usual disclaimers apply .

hornady critical def. 147. my wife is a little recoil sensitive and hates 9mm, but she'll shoot this out of my xd subcompact.

The DPX has a good reputation on the streets, but I have shot a bunch of the Hornady FTX in both 9mm and 38+P.
It is superbly accurate and soft shooting, esp. in the smaller guns.
Unlike HST or even DPX, it can be found in most places that don't carry
'police only' or other elusive loads.

That 135gr Speer load has gotten good reviews but it's hardly a low recoil load.
Federal makes a 135gr Reduced Recoil load which has proven to be accurate in my son's pistol. I highly recommend that round. My other son carry's Federal's 147gr HS ammo but that recoil is very stout.

Try Speer Gold Dot 115gr standard pressure. Very accurate in my Glocks and lightest recoil of all the hollow points I have tested.

Magsafe Swat load. You cannot get anything less snapier then them. ALso a great SD round with high velocity and no wall penetration. I carry them in all my weapons.
