Default Barnes XPB bullets in Buffalo Bore / Corbon ammo

Hi all,

Been looking at getting some new ammo for my carry revolvers in 357 magnum. I'd prefer the Speer GDHP in 125gr as its a proven round, but they are scarce these days so I've been looking at others.

I'm interested in the Buffalo Bore 125gr and the Corbon DPX, which both use the Barnes XPB bullet at some pretty high velocities. Everything I've read about the Barnes all copper bullets seem pretty good, but I have yet to see any ammo test videos of their products in a formatted media like ballistic gel or anything (I don't like water jugs or wetpack for comparisons).

I'm thinking these will be a good self defense round for a 3" barrel as they maintain pretty high velocities in short barrels with what appears to be a pretty reliable bullet. I'm assuming the all copper design will also help with barrier penetration should the situation call for it with no concern for jacket separation as there is no jacket.

Anyone have good experience with either of those rounds? I know Buffalo Bore has a pretty good reputation among folks who carry J frames and SP101s. I'm not concerned about recoil too much as I currently carry Underwood 125gr JHPs, but I've seen videos of their bullets failing in multiple calibers (including GDHPs) which is one of the reasons I want to switch over.

As always, thanks for any advice!

They seem to be a very good SD bullet from all the sites and pictures that I have seen being fired into gel and wet packs.

I only saw one test were a all copper bullet had all but one pedal fold back and I can't remember what brand it was.

CorBon has been the leader in Hi-Vel loads with copper bullets in the past, interesting that Buffalo is also picking up the ball and running with it.

I handload the XPB in a couple of different cartridges and I think it's absolutely the best thing going. I just don't have a suitable powder for their 140 gr. .357 Magnum bullet. I expect to get 1300 FPS out of a 4" barrel. If there's a factory load that can do this I should probably just break down and buy it.

Good stuff all. The Barnes designed bullet performs well through barriers, exhibit great weight retention, penetration, and expansion.

I've been privy to two officer involved shootings in which DPX was used. In both shootings the results were impressive.

I've carried DPX in 45ACP, 9MM, and 38 spl. No problems.

Gary Roberts has included some testing of DPX loaded rounds in some of his recent work and you should be able to find it. As far I know, arfcom is the most likely open site to locate his materials.
