Bulk Ammo for .357mag
Just bought a S&W 686 in 6" and was looking into buying bulk ammo from ammoman or dansammo or a similar site. The gun is primarily going to be used for target but will also go with me deer hunting a couple times. Looking to buy 1000 rounds since my friend also has a 357 and we will just go halfs on it. Anyone buy any bulk ammo that they really like for the price? Thanks a lot.

I've not bought .357 in 1000rd lots, but I used to buy CCI .magnum ammo all the time, 200 or so rounds at a time. If you can find the aluminum-cased stuff cheap in 1000rd cases, then buy it. It's good stuff.

You and your friend should invest in a Dillon press and reload your own ammo. Cheaper, plus you can load for specific purposes, like target practice or hunting. Be careful, its addictive.

Welcome, Dano!
Can't help you but thought I'd welcome you to the forum. A search shows that the prices are pretty much consistent at $380-$400 a case (plus shipping).
To Dirty Gary's point, if you "roll your own" you can make some much mo' better ammo for less than half that. It doesn't take a lot of $200 savings to justify the cost of a press, which can be done all-inclusive (press, dies, manual, scales, etc.) for as cheap as $300 to the full-blown upscale super duper at $2000.

Even in case lots .357 Magnum ammo is expensive. Reloading is the way to go. Unless you and your friend are going to shoot 1000 rounds per month, a decent single stage reloading press will be just fine. I load a heck of a lot of ammo on my single stage Hornady Lock-N-Load press.
You can buy a good kit with press, scale and accessories for about $300-$350. Add dies-I recommend the Lee four die sets with the factory crimp die for .357 Mag- $50 add a decent powder measure-$80 and a couple of loading manuals $80 and you will be set.

I used to reload shot shells before the shot and primers got so expensive. We won't shoot that much being he has 3 young kids and I have my first one on the way in a few weeks. I just wanted to "stock up" before prices get even more ridiculous than they already are. (if that's possible). Found blazer 158gr aluminum case 500 for $198 including shipping. About $17/box, that's $10/box cheaper than the stores here in upstate ny. I'll keep looking and thanks for the help!

You might want to consider looking at underwoodammo.com. Good quality, priced right, and nice people to deal with. Good luck.

I go to gun shows and buy bulk. I picked a 500 round box of 158gr FMJ by Ruag today for 178.00 which equals about 37 cents per round (cash deal, no sales tax). If I didnt have so much 38 special on hand, I could have gotten a good deal on that, but I stocked up a while back and got some 158gr FMJ 38 special at what ended up being 28 cents per round (Ruag as well).
I cant shoot lead bullets or reloads at any of my local (indoor) ranges, so I have never gotten into it.
