Zombie Ammo by Hornaday
I was looking at some of this stuff today. Has anyone actually fired the 9mm Zombie ammo? I'm curious if it is loafer ammo or a bit hotter. I can google it, but would rather hear it from a forum member with experience. Was @ $20 for a box of 25 rounds. Thanks 9mm shooters.....

AGREED
It is critical defense with a green tip instead of red. Usually cheaper too

Sorry but I haven't used it or never will but have used the Hornady Critical Defense and I have no complaints on that ammo but my gun prefers a different brand better.
IMHO it looks just like a gimmick for Hornady to sell more ammo under a differnt label. Pretty much the same thing as Critical Defense in a scary box. I am not crazy about the image this type of Zombie ammo packaging makes responsible gun owners look either. Buy hey that is just me.

It's useless against the undead. You shoot a live person, they will simply die, then come right back to life. You then have to shoot them a bunch more times.
This is a little known ply from Hornaday, designed to trick us into expending more ammo than necessary. Thus, we will wind up buying more ammo, making them richer and more powerful.

No, Sidewinder. It is not "just you."
I don't favor Critical Defense ammunition, anyway.
Using a green insert and putting a zombie on the box isn't marketed to us.

Brilliant marketing and just proves there is a sucker born every minute.
A. It's the same ammo.
B. There aren't Zombies.

This is exactly what I was thinking. I just wanted another opinion. If it actually shoots and performs well, then the packaging is of no matter. The box does seem a bit childish, not to mention the "uses" for the ammo. For the record, I'm NOT into the vampire and spook Bravo Sierra either. Heaven forbid someone watching and old black and white movie with a message and a feel-good lesson in it. Thanks for the sense.....

I know you are actually looking for some sort of performance report, but I wonder how many responsible gun owners would even buy this stuff?
I am all for having a good laugh at most anything, but can you imagine the field day the press would have - not to mention the grabber elite - when the next looney-tune that goes off the deep end with his 'automatic handgun' is in possession of a bag full of "Zombie Max" ammo...

C'mon guys...everybody knows zombie ammo is made specifically for zombie guns...
Seriously, I don't know if there are zombies or not(cept maybe in WalMart at midnight) but I do know dealers can't keep this stuff on the shelves. Now I haven't seen anyone come in and buy zombie ammo by the case but one after the other "has to have" a box or 2 just for the yuk of it. Betcha the marketing guys that thought this up got some pretty nice bonuses.
Oh yea, to the OPs original question...as said above same stuff-green tip(not just any green... zombie slime green)

Have you ever seen someone doped up on thorazine? Closest thing to a zombie I can recall. Seriously though when I first saw this stuff I laughed my butt off, much to the embarrassment of the young kid behind the counter. It's a gimmic, just like the Mossberg zombie guns, the Varmageddon bullets, etc. I see now Kabar is putting out zombie knives and machetes with green handles. I mean, cmon now. Besides, us guys who now about it would rather use FMJ's or cast wadcutters on our zombies anyway for better penetration of the brain. But a good .22 long rifle is the best because its quiet and ammo is plentiful.

I have a box of .40 coming in the mail because I can't find any of the stuff in any GS.
If you follow the TV show "The Walking Dead" you can better understand why a ammo company would market such a product. Timing is near perfect. Like Pace40 said, the marketing guys might have hit pay day.
The idea is Brilliant.
This responsible gun owner is looking forward to his box and I plan on getting other calibers, but it will sit on my bench shelf as a conversation piece. I don't care about how good the stuff shoots, that is not why I bought it.

This was my thought also. Good gimmick and nearly perfectly timed with The Walking Dead phenomena, not to mention all the other zombie movies and zombie video games that have come out in recent years. I too want to pick up a few boxes strictly as conversation pieces. And who knows maybe someday the stuff will be collectible.

I am waiting for Smith & Wesson to jump on the zombie bandwagon (makes you wonder what the driver looks like). Mossberg is in on it, Nosler (sort of with the Varmageddon), Hornady, Kabar, and a half a dozen other companies. It won't surprise me if Smith comes out with a zombie gun of their own. I had thought about getting a box as a collector piece, but I don't own a gun in any of the calibers they have. I think that since Rick Grimes carries a .357 revolver (albeit a Colt) they could at least oblige us wheel gun guys and make a zombie load for us. We should have a chance against walkers too right?

I bought a couple of boxes in 45 ACP at the suggestion of my local dealer and ran them through my M&P. As ammo goes, it's fine. Also cleared the zombies out of my neighborhood. Y'all ought to git some fer yurselves.

Personally I think this whole zombie apocalypse craze is silly and hope it will blow over soon.
That being said, I was given a box of Hornady Zombie Max .45ACP ammo as a gag gift and decided to try it out. Other than the puke green tip they are identical to the Critical Defense and they functioned perfectly in my S&W M&P 45c. Since they were priced 10% less than the Critical Defense I bought a couple more boxes for home defense. Threw away the boxes so I don't even have to be reminded of the ridiculous packaging.

It would be bad enough having to explain to a jury why I needed to load my gun with magnum, hollow point (dumdum) ammo. I don't want the prosecutor showing them a box of "Zombie Killers" ! Might give them the wrong ideas.

I agree.
IMHO the anti-gun folks already think gun owners shoot every living thing that moves out there anyway what are they going to think then when they think we gun people shoot things that are already dead. Too funny.
I know who cares what the anti-gun people think anyway right, but it never helps to give them ammo ( play on words ) to use against us every time anti-gun legislation of any kind comes up. Just look at some of the ridiculous gun laws some states already have and you know gun owners didn't pass these laws.
Sorry for taking this off topic and I guess " what ever floats your boat " on the packaging of this ammo. Otherwise good ammo.

I could see a prosecuting attorney parading around a court room with a box of that that someone used in a shooting.

I'm a fan of zombie movies, and I love "The Walking Dead." But I'm also a lawyer, and while I see the humor in "zombie ammo," I think it's a bad idea for the same reason I think grips with skulls or grim reapers are a bad idea. If you have to use your gun to defend yourself, and God forbid end up prosecuted or sued, there is a good chance the jury will see that imagery and it won't be helpful to your case. Just my opinion.

When we first got the Zombie ammo at the store, I thought
what the ? / you've got to be kidding me / who would buy this stuff ?
It's just Critical Defense with a green eraser rather than
a red eraser ,, brass case rather than nickel.
But, it's a couple bucks cheaper a box and it has been selling like Hot Cakes.
Guess I know nothing about marketing and Hornady does..
Now, explain to me WHY someone would pay $80 for a bleeding
zombie target. I just Don't understand ?

Hornady dropped a couple notches on the respect scale when they introduced Zombie Max ammo. Profits are the name of the game. As a responsible gun owner and protection permit holder I will never purchase a single round of that stupid cartoon ammo. Heaven forbid I'd need to defend myself from some ethnic group other than the "undead" while my gun was loaded with ammo warning you not to use it on any live creature.

Super secret spec ops Ninja products.
I picked some up on Monday to try this weekend. Honady has a great sense of humor! How many "Spec ops super secret Ninja" products are there out there for the lawyers to get hold of?
Lighten up guys!

No harm, no foul................if it goes bang and has "cool" points for someone, so be it. I'll probably avoid it unless it is cheaper to obtain. Shoot whatever you choose safely and in good health.

A friend of mine and former instructor for our department and I talked alot of this over because he refuses to sell the ammo. As he said, it was taking a real gun and making it into a toy, like you're in a video game or movie instead of a gun that you could possibly be using to defend your life by taking anothers. Hornady will make money on this but they have also opened themselves up as a target to lawyers and anti-gun fanatics.

No need for special "zombie" ammo in .357 mag it already has plenty stopping power.
