Default price on 38 good or pass?

getting back into S&W's - got a little 36 a nd was going to reload - but buy the dies, get the brass and I really most likely not shoot this little gun all that much.. Plan to shoot it and then use it as a CCW..

Anyway, been shopping and found this

Remington Express 38 Special 125 Grain +P Semi-Jacketed Hollow Point Ammunition - $149.95 shipped

Comes to $15 shipped to my front door.. sounds ok to me, but like I said, just getting back into the wheel guns and haven't bought 38's for YEARS..

thanks

If that price is for 500 R38S2 which is the Express round that is less than 1/2 price, for the UMC 125 gr +P that is still a pretty good deal with shipping included.

Yeah if that's not a cruel typo it is a very good deal. I checked my go to reference suppliers and that is over 60% savings.

I suspect its some sort of mfr special, I got some from sgammo at about the same price. FWIW, this ammo does seem to have a pretty heavy flash in my 4" model 64.

Remington ammo is on special. Since nobody trusts the Remington ammo brand, I guess they needed to dump all of their .38 +P. I'ma get me some, I think. I shot a box I had been hoarding and it lit off fine.

Ordered mine online. Free shipping. Total was 152 and change for 500 rounds. It was 149 bucks plus 3 bucks for insurance.

That's a screamin' deal and I'm about to order. It's not my first choice as a defensive load, but a case of this will be good to stick back in the hidey hole.
Ammo ain't gettin' cheaper.

We carried these scalloped jacket loads in both .38 and 357 back in the day. They won't compare to the better loads we have today, but they were actually pretty darn good for their time, and worked well in two shoots that I recall, both with the .38.
At this price, sock these back for hard times and carry the better loads for defense.

Can you expand a little on your comment

for back in the day - less power? Less accurate??

how do they not compare?

Thanks

My comments were simply to say that this load worked well then, but is not as robust of an expander or as good an overall performer as more modern recent production ammo. However,I ordered it and will have no problem carrying it if necessary, just not my first choice, but not a bad choice, either,IMO. Hope that cleared that up,sir.
