Speer must have done a big run of this. I saw that GT Distributors in Dallas had a shelf full this week at $28.99/50.

Near as I can research, there's zero difference between the Speer Gold Dots packaged for "Law Enforcement" versus for "Personal Protection".
Apparently it comes down to whether one wants to pay $20 for 20 rounds at some retailers, or $30 for 50 at others. The choice seems obvious...
Anything I'm missing here, 'cause it sure doesn't make sense?
And can anyone comment on doing business with Ammunition to Go? Reputable outfit?

Thanks Pete! I had heard they were going to make a run of 135gr in the spring. Looks like it finally hit the shelves...

I have shot them from the 20 round packages and the 50 round packages and see no difference. My Chronograph sees no difference either. Same stuff, just different packaging.

Did you chrono these from your M-60-7? What was the velocity?
Thanks.

Appears to be LE only, at least from their website.

Just because it's called LE ammo doesn't make it LE only ammo. Now days LE means we are letting you buy 50 rounds in one box instead of only 20 rounds and we will charge you a little less.

Companies who are under contract to sell only to LE agencies and personnel don't pay Federal Excise Tax so they have to make sure they don't sell to the general public. The ammo itself is fine. If you look at their other available ammo you will see 20 round boxes of Hornady and other ammo which is available to everyone with the same ammo restriction. G T Distributors Product Detail The price is only $14.99 instead of $24 because of their LE distributor's discount. You will not see that stipulation on the Ammo-To-Go site.

On the strength of this thread (and a little research on Ammunition to Go, which gets excellent marks on a lot of forums), placed first order with them this week. Package arrived today, no issues. Cool.
For what it's worth, the Law Enforcement Speer Gold Dot boxes don't mention "Short Barrel" anywhere on them, though the specs are correct: .38 Special +P 135 grain GDHP.
Odd, but I've little doubt these are the short barrel design.

The only ammo Speer loads with that 135gr bullet is their .38 Special and .357 Magnum Short Barrel ammo. It's the bullet that does the work in the short barrel. It was specifically designed to reliable expand at the lower velocities associated with short barrels. If it uses that 135gr GDHP bullet it's a short barrel round...

I never said the ammo was restricted, I said at GT Distributors they say on their web site it is restricted.

Hi All.
New to Forum and ran across this thread.
Quite a few of the posters are correct.
Part #`s are as follows:
(2)3921 = 20 Round Box
(5)3921 = 50 Round Box
The ammo is exactly the same. It`s great stuff, and very accurate in my little 442.
Regards, Pete

A bit on the response here... But GT sells LE boxes of Gold Dot ammo over the counter in their retail store. Good prices too.
