I have several of those boxes in My collection I believe that style box was used from somewhere in the 30's to the 40's,They are often referred to as the "Dog Bone" Boxes http://22box-id.com/Dunn/REMINGTON.pdf
Looks Like Mid to Late 20's Through 1937 or so.

My guess would be 1940's -- but probably pre war, or late thirties. I ran across a brick of Remington 22's once that was bought right after WWII, and the box was black and silver. JMHO

Much appreciated.

I found it in that link: R17L = 1930
and "Note: LR-l can be collected by army lot numbers which are generally stamped on the bottom of the box. The U.S. Military purchased this box for training purposes."

I guess that's an "army lot number" stamped on the bottom.

Was looking for some early '50's to go with my 1953 K-22.

You suppose someone with a '30's .22LR training rifle might want it?

Just thought about that.

gmiller0737,

thanks for posting the Remington box website; it is very helpful, informative and has high quality photography. Definitely a keeper! Got a similar website for Winchester?
