Default Where to purchase Federal Nyclad ammo

Hello. New to the Forum but have been reading the different threads for many months now trying to educate myself on the different revolvers and types of ammo. I have many questions but my first one is: I have read more good than bad about the Federal Nyclad HP for .38 Special. I tried to buy a box at the Tucson gun show last weekend. Nobody had any. I've looked on internet but everybody shows they are out of stock. I tried to contact Federal by email and phone to ask but no reply from them as yet. Is this a limited run ammo that is only produced one time a year or what??? Thanks, Joe

If no body has the ammo, it probably has been discontinued.

Well, thats what I was thinking but........on the Federal official site, they still have the ammo listed. And you can't purchase directly from Federal like some other ammo manufacturers. I tried emailing them but the email went unanswered. I tried calling them but just got an answering machine.

Last time they discontinued it they let the pipeline dry up before announcing.

This way the MBA who makes the decision doesn't look bad because of a flurry of last-minute orders.

As always, when you find a load you like, buy a lifetime supply.

Regards,

Pat

Sometimes a company will make limited runs of ammo during the year. Same thing happened with Winchester 145gr Silvertip .357 Magnum ammo. It was unavailable for about 1.5 years and then EVERYONE had it available. (yes, I bought plenty) Put your email on a notification list from one or more of the online vendors. When it again becomes available buy a bunch and put it away.

I believe I received a flier last week from "Cheaper than Dirt" with the ammo for sale. I discarded the flier, but check their website.

Alot of the NYCLAD type ammos, were outlawed in some states because they went through body armor, so the companies probably stopped making them. Bob

Errrr... WHAT????

Nyclads are deadsoft lead bullets with a nylon jacket. Nylon, teflon, or any other exotic plastic non stick coating will NEVER take a bullet and make armor piercing itself.

Bullets that had teflon coatings back in the day had it as a means to protect the barrel from a tungsten bullet. It was going through armor whether the teflon was there or not.

Midway about a year and a half ago had Nyclads on sale for $10 per 50 in 38 +P..... I should have bought a whole boatload even though I dont own a 38/357.

Back when it was incorrectly thought Winchester Black Talon ammo was a "cop killer" bullet but of course it wasn't. It had nothing to do with Nyclad ammo and as a matter of fact, that was the ammo a lot of police departments were carrying when revolvers were still standard sidearms.

The manufacturers will do one or two "runs" of a particular type of ammo each year. When the stock runs out, you have to wait for the next run to hit the shelves.

Like Dave said OY Vey, what a myth. All the Nyclad is a soft lead with a nylon jacket henc the "Nyclad" and from personal experiance not that great on people.

It is indeed false, but so widely reported for nearly 30 years now that, like "who shot Liberty Valance" the legend has overtaken the truth.

I encountered the same nonsense from my department's property officer in 1985 when my partner and I went to draw extra ammo for a raid. He only had Nyclads and didn't want to give them to us because "they'll go right through your vest".

Told him I had no plans to shoot myself in the vest, so what's the problem?

You say nylon, I say teflon, let's call the whole thing off.
