| | .223 Ammo shortage per Dick's As much as I hate Black Friday, I went out.
Anyhow, I went to Dick's because I saw they had ammo "Buy One, get one 50% off". Well, I went in right when they opened mostly getting some .270, and .223.
They had a massive white sign "Due to ammo shortages in .223/5.56 customers are limited to ONLY 6 boxes". All they had in .223 was PMC Bronze, UMC Remington, and TulAmmo.
I'm wondering if this was some kinda scare tactic to get people to buy it all up, which they did, or if there really is a shortage? | | The Following User Likes This Post:

| | There been a slight shortage since the early summer due to panic buying of the election. People are still buying wondering if the U.S. will sign the United Nations ban and firearms.
Next reason is that a lot of people who couldn't afford the price of an AR, now know they are not that expensive and are buying more and a lot of people are building them. Don't go by Dicks if you don't have to, it seems they either have it or don't no matter what time of year it is. | | The Following 2 Users Like Post:

| | In checking a number of different mail order ammo retailers, there is not a lot of .223/5.56 available at the moment. And even the local retailers near me are having trouble getting their hands on it. Is that due to panic buying/government hoarding of ammo? I have no idea...
According to one LGS in my area, stock at his ammo distributors are drying up really quickly... |

According to one LGS in my area, stock at his ammo distributors are drying up really quickly... | It's people hoarding and grabbing what ever they find. Reason, past election. I always grab a couple to build as I go. Always reloadable too.
Look what happened to Twinkies. The two day old stores had lines and people were hoarding those. To eat themselves ? No. Look on E-Bay or Amazon and see what they are selling for.. YIKES !!! |

| | Got enough loaded to last me through two or three years of heavy shooting.
I've got enough brass to last me until I'm 137 years old.
Really.
Enough "tips" to last until somewhere around 2017 if I shot a lot between now and then.
Enough powder and primers to get me through a couple "seasons" or four.
Every day its like the donut man.
Except its "got to trim the brass..." *sigh*
Just hope my bones can keep up.
40 years of "building your supplies" can have that effect.

| | It's not Dick's, there is a general shortage of .223. Supplies are drying up and prices are going up. Of course, that in itself guarantees that: supplies will dry up (because people are grabbing it while they can) and prices will go up due to demand.
We can hope that prices come back down some day....

| | I stopped by Dick's at noon and most of their rifle ammo was wiped out. Shotgun ammo was still plentiful. I did snag some very cheap (thanks to the sale) Federal Gold Medal .308 ammo and was very happy for that. |

| | It looks like Dick's didn't order enough, maybe. Its also possible they don't want to get stuck with a big inventory if Obama gets his way and bans everything. |

| | Weird.....both my local Dicks were cleaned out a couple of weeks ago. I shopped around, and guess where I found plenty? WalMart. Yep, all three around here had plenty. Guess where else I found plenty? My local gunshop. He even had 280 round cans of 30-06 in Garand clips for $200. All Lake City 69. We all knew if the election went the way it did, there would be panic buying of ammunition and firearms. What I don't get is that people are surprised this happened. Shop around and be patient. It is still out there.

| | That black friday special was limit 6 boxes of ALL ammo. It was in the ad.
I went in and out 3 times to get what I needed. They had plenty of 223/556.
Dicks prices suck by the way, but it was worth it for me |

| | The local Fleet Farm had .223 in 20rd, 100rnd, 500rnd and 1000rnd quantities. They also have a bunch of 7.62x39 in the big metal cans. There was a lot of bare shelving in the ammo department, military calibers must be selling well...

| | There may be local shortages but overall, ammo, firearms are available in every flavor. obama can not ban all/any firearms just because he wants to. The 1994 "it's a crime bill" had to go through the house and senate any bill would have to do that again. If he could ban ammo/firearms at his whim then we are in worse trouble than I thought. If I am wrong ( and he can ban anything he wants on his whim) please let me know. I am not a lawyer, but I believe congress still exists. Be Safe,

Bush the Elder banned the import of "assault rifles". I suspect with a stroke of his pen Obama could ban "military type firearms" or high cap mags or military caliber firearms. The congress can override a presidential order, but I don't believe it has ever happened. |

| | At the range I go to, you can hardly walk around the shop area without tripping over cases of .223 and surplus 5.56. One LGS recently got a shipment of 150,000 rounds. Although he did sell about half of it in a week's time. |

I can't find it on their website. I found 500-600 for close to $230 |

| | MichiganScott: I also believe that clinton had a hand in banning ammo from china, and I realize that both were dealing with imports. That is why I do not understand how he could LEGALLY ban any firearm with an executive order, if that is correct than we are one step away from monarchy!! I realize that Truman, Eisenhower, and Roosevelt, all faced legal challenges to certain EO's because they were creating law while bypassing congress, is this correct? Our republic is truly fragile. Be Safe,
