Default 22lr

Here in central Virginia 22 lr is very hard to find. Found only one 500 round box of Fiocchi M 320 match. Don't know anything about this round good or bad. Will use in my model 18 and 17. What can you tell me?

Fiocchi is very good ammunition. It will give very good results in your revolvers.

Please be aware that all .22 firearms will show better results with some loads compared with others. You may well find the Fiocchi is ideally suited to one or both of your revolvers.

Living outside of Columbus, GA, I am finding it hard to find .22 LR ammunition of any brand or type. Yesterday a church member told me of a local shop were I was able to buy four bricks of American Eagle .22 LR HP. They also had CCI Mini-Mags, etc. in 100 rd. plastic boxes for "normal" prices.

Talk to your friends and they might be able to give you information as to where ammunition is available. I've got friends looking for hi-capacity .22 LR magazines for the Ruger 10-22. We've agreed that if they find one or two, they will buy them and I will reimburse them. Maybe the same method would work for you in finding and buying ammunition.

Went to a not so 'local' gun shop today. Made a special trip after calling to confirm that they actually had some of the American Eagle 22lr ammo that their website said I could buy two 400 round boxes of for a special price because I signed up for their emails. Didn't know about this special last week when I went there and bought two eight round mags for my Shield. When I was there last week I saw some cases of Blazzer bulk 22lr on a pallet. When I inquired about the price I was told that it was about $170 which was 20% off individual box price for case purchases. Today, when I asked if they had any cases of the AE22 I was told yes but they were no longer giving a discount for case purchases. Didn't even see the AE behind the counter last week or I would have purchased then. I did go ahead and buy a case of the AE22 since I was there. Just goes to show, you snooze, you loose.

Why would anyone spend that much money on 22LR ammo? Really, $752 is a very high price for plain-ol ammo! It just goes to show you how stupid some people can be and those same people are allowed to vote!

Is the old saying "more money than brains" appropriate here?

If you have a Dick's around check them out. I happend in the one in WV the other day they had 2000 Round of Winchester M22 for $94 and 500 rnd bxs of CCI standerd. Never know where you will run across it now sometime you have to ask in Dick's as small boxes they keep behind the counter.

I was in a LGS Monday picking up my new M&P40 and was talking with the owner about shortages in guns and ammo. He told me that none of his distributors has any 22lr. It's not my intention to start anything, just stating what he told me.

In my area of VA there is NO .22LR anywhere unless youhappen upon a shop that just stocked, and it's gone in minutes.

if you absolutely must have 22LR, Midway has the more expensive target loadings available. Cheapest is about 115 $/500 rnds.

Default Chill!

For Pete's sake.

If you have a few rounds of .22 just chill out and wait for the stock and price to return to something approaching normal.

After all, does anyone think that government at any level is going to mess with .22? Or that the manufacturers are going to stop making it?

Geez!

I've got a few rounds and I'm not buying (or looking for) anymore until the insanity subsides. Let's all do each other a favor and do the same and things will simmer down a lot faster.

Keep your eyes open and ask friends and family to do the same for you. Plain old 40 gr. LRN .22 LR ammo may be hard to find. But oddly some of the more exotic loadings are available. I found two 100 rd. packages of Remington Golden .22's at a small ACE Hardware store yesterday along with three little 50 rd. boxes of Thunderbolts. The Golden .22's were priced normally, but the Thunderbolts were $3.29/50 rds. Ouch! Today I went into a little gunshop that had sold out of plain .22 LR ammo. Happily that had Stingers for $6.50/50 rds. and even better they had Remington Yellow Jackets for $7.99/100 rds. That was the normal price one paid in this area before all the panic buying started. And... the nice lady running the register said there was no limit on how much one could buy. So... I bought what I could afford. I figure I'll use the Yellow Jackets in my rifles and use the more traditional 38 gr. HP/40 gr. RN ammo in my handguns. The reason is simple. It is much easier to adjust zero on a rifle w/ a scope than to do the same thing with handguns using open sights.

Once upon a time I probably kept 2-300 rounds of .22 LR ammo on hand and about the same amount of .38 Special, etc. After the 2008 election, I bought some nice M-2 ball for my M-1 Garands and later some M-2 AP since it was actually cheaper than the M-2 I'd bought earlier. And... I bought a fair amount of .22 LR ammo. Now I am so very thankful to have some ammo to shoot. My heart goes out to folks who are not finding anything at all available for sale. I'm meeting a preacher friend tomorrow for lunch. Then I'm going to take him over to a indoor pistol range and let him try out a couple of my revolvers. I am so thankful to have enough ammo on hand that he will be able to shoot probably as much as he wants. I don't think he's ever before fired a handgun.

My posts were not intended to cause panic or people to go and seek out 22lr. ammo. I was just amazed that there is little to none to be found. I can somewhat understand the frenzy over 5.56, 9 mm, 40, ect. , but 22lr. ? I guess people are buying anything and everything.

The .22 shortage seemed to start before the current frenzy. Have been looking for Federal Valupak for a while. Shooting steel tends to burn massive amounts of ammo!
